Since the co-op is a community initiative, we want to take the time to thank community members for contributing their time, skills and passions to the Monadnock Community Market.

Thank you to Nancy Salwen from Salwen Graphic Design for donating her time to create a new banner for our monthly updates.  Let us know what you think!

Happy IYC!
Connect 2011We are entering 2012, the International Year of Cooperatives, as declared by the United Nations. It's a time to recognize and celebrate co-ops. Of course, community ownership and community participation is nothing new to you - our member-owners and friends, who support local CSAs, farmers' markets, Monadnock Buy Local, and regularly give the gift of your time to the co-op and other groups.

Groundbreaking
2012 promises to be a busy year for other reasons as well. You received an email last month that discussed some challenges we are facing as we move toward groundbreaking. Again, we are taking every step possible to be thorough and make the best decisions on behalf of our member-owners.

We identified a process where some of the phases of our construction project will be sent for re-bid.  Also, we will explore some cost-saving design changes. We expect to work through January on this process and hope to provide more detailed information about a groundbreaking in February.  As part of this process, we want to thank Baybutt Construction for all of their hard work in the pre-construction phase of our project.

Thank You Jess!
Connect 2011Finally, we want to send out a huge thank you out to Jess Gerrior, who ably and enthusiastically served as interim Project Manager this fall. The Project Manager's role was designed to fade out upon hiring a General Manager, and thanks to Jess' leadership, we kept up the momentum and provided General Manager Michael Faber with a solid foundation to build upon.

We look forward to seeing all of you in 2012. As always, feel free to stop by, write, call, or email if you have questions, comments, or ideas. Above all, we wish you a healthy, joyful, and prosperous New Year!

Yours Cooperatively,

Savor Our Seasons:

Cranberries

By Liza Drew, Keene State College Dietetic Intern

Flavorful Fact: Though they may be small, cranberries are bursting with health benefits. Cranberries are often water-

harvested, meaning that the bog is flooded so that the cranberries float to the surface for easier collection.

Recently, studies have found that water-harvested cranberries contain more antioxidants because exposure to sunlight increases these healthy phytonutrients that make cranberries red.
