Here's a way to help:

Become the volunteer coordinator for the Co-op.  It's a great way to give back - and help us engage more people in the building of our Co-op.  Contact us if you are interested.

Thank You!

Since the co-op is a community initiative, we want to take the time to thank community members for contributing their time, skills and passions to the Monadnock Community Market.

Thank you to Cheryl Fairbanks for her countless hours volunteering from tabling at events to mailing out membership letters. Many thanks to Cheryl for her generosity and hard-working spirit!

Hello Friends,

As the first snowflakes fly (and melt) in the Monadnock Region, we're eagerly anticipating a final date for the groundbreaking of your new co-op! We'll keep you posted when we know the exact date - so watch your inbox, Facebook, etc. for details.

And a hearty thank you to all of you who came out to our first Annual Meeting. We feel that it was a rousing success - if only because it was a chance for member-owners to meet, greet, and participate. And participate you did! We'll have details for you soon on what you asked us to work on in the coming year.

For those of you unable to attend the Annual Meeting, we introduced our new General Manager, Michael Faber, who is excited to be a part of our team. He has been the GM of Wild Oats Cooperative Market in Williamstown, MA, and has a wealth of knowledge and experience to bring to Keene and our store. We are lucky to be in such good hands.

That's it for now - we continue to move forward with making our Co-op happen, and it is all thanks to you.

Yours cooperatively,
Monadnock Community Market Co-op

Savor Our Seasons:

Connect 2011Turnips

By Liza Drew, Keene State College Dietetic Intern

Flavorful Fact:
Flavorful fact: Turnips and their leafy greens are such a great source of antioxidants that like their other cruciferous cousins they are powerful at preventing cancer.

I've found that when asking folks about their favorite vegetables, turnips are seldom mentioned, another unappreciated vegetable to join the ranks with beets and Brussels sprouts. Yet, with their delicate sweet texture, versatility, and long shelf-life what's not to love?

Putney Food Co-op Turns 70!

By Paul LeVasseur, Transition Putney

Not only are we one of the largest employers in Putney; our store grossed $3.7 million in sales for FY 2011; our local purchasing topped 30% of our total goods purchased this year.  This means that, in the past year, our co-op was responsible for adding almost $700,000 to the regional food economy.  Our eyes are on the future, one in which Vermont's Farm to Plate Initiative will be a success.  We see our role as a small part in that success.
