Thank You!

Since the co-op is a community initiative, we want to take the time to thank community members for contributing their time, skills and passions to the Monadnock Community Market.

Thank you to everyone who made our 500 Member-Owner Celebration a HUGE success: the MCM Co-op Events Committee, The Works Cafe, Walpole Creamery, Equal Exchange Co-op & the Hanover-Lebanon Food Co-op.

Also, thanks to Melinda Garland and SIFE Students, for helping update our MCM Co-op Brochure.

Hello Friends,

Thank you to EVERYONE who attended the MCM Co-op's 500 Member-Owner Community Celebration (link to Flikr photos) on March 26th.  It was wonderful to mingle with you - and we look forward to our next celebration of 800 Member-Owners.  For those of you not able to make it, 200 Co-op supporters from all over the Monadnock Region came to our Community Celebration, and 20 new member-owners joined at the event!

Have you heard about the Think Spring promotion? Anyone who becomes a member-owner from April 1st to April 15th (postmarked, for mail-in brochure orders) is eligible to win an original work by a local artist.

Member Loan Campaign Update
We have one more critical step to accomplish before we can begin construction on our Co-op: raising the necessary capital to cover start-up costs and position us to receive grant funding for our equipment. To do that, we are offering members the opportunity to lend money to their Co-op at a favorable interest rate.

Our Member Loan Campaign will begin April 15 through June 1st.  If you are a member-owner, look for a Member Loan letter in your mailbox (mid-April) that will explain how you can participate.  If you are interested in making a loan or learning more right away, contact our Member Loan Coordinator, Jane Shapiro: jane.mcmcoop@gmail.com or 603-355-8008.

Yours cooperatively,

Savor Our Seasons: Radishes

By Liza Drew, Keene State College Dietetic Intern

Flavorful fact: Radishes are one of the earliest spring crops, taking less than 30 days to grow. The name radish is Greek for "fast appearing."

As the ground slowly thaws and the sun begins to warm the soil, April is an exciting month for early planting. Radishes, peas, spinach, arugula and other greens can be planted outdoors as soon the soil can be worked. Spinach seeds can even be sprinkled over frozen ground and allowed to germinate as the ground thaws. Not only are these early crops fast and easy to grow, but they also add fresh flavor and variety to a meal. Nothing tastes better than your first crunchy bite of a locally grown salad after a long winter of root vegetables, casseroles and stews.
