Find events on Green Star's web calendar. Lead Awareness Workshop - August 10
9am to Noon at the Anchorage Fire Training
Center, 1140 Airport Heights Road.
Because lead-based paint in homes and child-occupied facilities built before 1978 is the primary cause of childhood lead poisoning, the lead-safe RRP rule places new requirements on property-management companies, landlords, contractors, renovators, and painters for lead-safe work practices to reduce lead exposure. This workshop, hosted by Region 10 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, will discuss the dangers and history of lead-based paint, 1018 notification requirements, and the RRP Rule, including certification requirements, work practice standards, and updates on regulations. X-Ray fluorescence (XRF) will be demonstrated and participants are encouraged to bring items of concern to be tested for lead (dishware, jewelry, toys etc.). For more information, contact Laurie Fay at 206-553-1541 or fay.laurie@epa.gov, or Mary Sturman at 206-553-2456 or

LIME SOLAR ACCEPTS OLD PHONES |
Jesse Moe with Newaya flyers at Lime Solar!
|
Lime Solar, a recent Green Star member, is now recycling old cell phones and buying back smart phones. Lime Solar is partnering with a company called Newaya and is now paying for old smart phones. Lime Solar is a new firm in Anchorage that offers renewable energy products and services for commercial applications. Lime Solar founders Jesse Moe and Chester Dyson have been very open and helpful in developing the partnership with Newaya. Call Brennan, owner and founder of Newaya, at 970-658-0575 to get an estimate for your phone today and then drop off the phone at Lime Solar. Brennan Zelener started Newaya, originally called Green iPhone, less than two years ago while in college in Fort Collins, Colorado. He now runs Newaya's recycling facilities in Fort Collins where he buys old phone, wipes all data from them, resells those with value, and recycles those with no resale value. Check out the new Lime Solar store at 3090 Mountain View Drive in Anchorage to see a beautiful display of solar, wind, and LED products that are the future of energy. And don't forget to visit Lime Solar's booth at the Alaska State Fair this year!
