More and more, organizations are using coaching as a way to improve retention rates and to improve the outcome of the recruitment process. As employees increasingly value training and development as portable and highly valuable job perks, the promise of coaching becomes more significant. Greetings!
Who do you admire? What about them do you admire? I've been asked this question too. My father happens to be one of a handful I admire because he is a self-made and successful entrepreneur. He arrived in Canada in the late 1950s with only a few dollars in his pocket. I watched him grow his business with the help of friends, family and loyal employees at the best of times and the worst of times. His constant optimism, positive attitude, and leadership during trying times is something I noticed from an early age. He handled three recessions with such ease. While I saw money come and go and come again, I learned that a person's intrinsic strengths are the intangible resources that are available and accessible at any time, no matter what. So take a moment and notice the power within you and others. And, read on to find out how you can tap into another intangible resource-Relationship Intelligence.

Relationship Intelligence
Build Healthy Relationships Wherever You Go
A recent study conducted by Researcher SOM revealed that 60% of workers agree that workers have difficult relationships with their bosses. 75% feel they're not getting enough recognition for their efforts from their employer. Let's face it, relationships are emotional. All human beings are born with a yearning to connect, and emotions are the natural currency.
While emotional intelligence is about our ability to recognize, identify, appropriately read and express emotion, relationship intelligence expands the concept to include awareness of not only of myself and other, but also of the relationship itself as its own entity. The relationship itself has a direction and movement we learn to move with. Everything has a natural unfolding, and there is wisdom in every situation. We move from "who is doing what to whom?" to "what is trying to happen?".
Every feeling, expression or behavior within the relationship is a message, the beginning of something trying to happen. By exploring all that is arising in the relationship process and holding the assumption that this process is intelligent, the answer will be revealed.

Relationship Intelligence
Take Away Exercise
As mentioned above, with relationship intelligence there is more present in a relationship than the partners. There is also the relationship itself, as its own entity with its own needs and voice.
- Think of an important relationship with a mild disagreement.
- What is your stance? Take your own side firmly.
- Next, pretend you are the other party in the relationship. Experience the situation from his/her position. What do you imagine his/her stance to be?
- Now pretend you are the eyes and voice of the entire relationship that live above the individuals in the relationship (you and other). What have these eyes noticed about each of the individuals? Let this voice speak out to each individual in the relationship and declare what it needs/wants from each of them.
- Now, go back to being you. What's possible as a result of this exercise?
Bonus! Call and book your FREE half-hour relationship coaching session over the phone.
