"The Anointing is not a chill, not a thrill, not something to be cheaply experienced.
The Anointing is not some admirable performance by person or persons.
The Anointing is not a substance to be thrown around, sprinkled and conferred as if there was no more value that dirty dishwater.
Beloveds, The Anointing is A Person.
The Anointing: HE"
This is a Word the Lord has been pouring into my heart and spirit for four years...

The Anointing
This term is used 26 times in the old Testament to mean the act of pouring a holy oil over someone to consecrate that person for priesthood, prophet-work, or to be king. The Hebrew word is 'mishchah' meaning consecrated portion, anointing oil, to consecrate by anointing, poured out by priesthood.
Today, a person anointed and operating on behalf of God under the influence of His Anointing is doing something for Jesus in either a priestly, kingly, or prophetic holy function. This ain't the stuff of rock stars.
Holy business.
The word 'anointing' only occurs twice in the New Testament. Here it is the word 'chrisma' meaning anointing, unction---of the Holy Spirit. Inspired persons anointed under the first covenant by oil, a symbol and type for Holy Spirit--- Who is a Person and a Distinct Person of God. In the New Testament, Holy Spirit is the Holy Anointer.
chrisma: anointing , unction. A person is anointed by Holy Spirit and is regarded as endued with Holy Spirit and with his Divine gifts. (Thayer's)
So, the Old and New Testaments converge and mirror each other: The Anointing is God poured out upon man to consecrate to office and to furnish the necessary power to carry out the administration of that office or calling.
The Anointing sanctifies. It is Holy.
Recently I attended a holy convocation--- a regional gathering with Kingdom implications. There was a character there who was crazy-go-nuts for something he or she believed to be the anointing. This individual would grab onto another unwitting person and take an unoffered hand, saying with great dramatization: "OOOO, do you feel that!"
And, you know...'that' is what pissed me off.
You'll get over it.
May I prophesy this without equivocation?
Holy Spirit--God---He is NOT a that!Years ago I had a friend who was in a season of great zeal for ministry. Before going to a meeting she would prophesy, "Tonight God is going to show up and show off." That grieved me beyond words...because it grieved Holy Spirit. He was wounded by this because it objectified Him. Once as my friend was saying these words I winced very apparently and she asked me what my problem was. I said, "Holy Spirit is not a circus performer!" It may well be in His agenda to come into your meeting and bring a holy hush to the people---to re-establish reverence for Himself.
"Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm."
Every believer is anointed. Each of us has a measure of Holy Spirit. It is the abiding presence of Holy Spirit that touches and activates the charisms---the spiritual gifts in us to operate to build Kingdom.
Jesus takes 'touching' one another very seriously! We can touch palpably, in word, in deed, or via intentions. He has a two-fold reason for His sobriety on this issue: First, He cares for each of us. He is our Protector and our Strong Tower. Secondly, He takes very seriously who touches Holy Spirit and how He is touched!
Who is laying hands on you? Anyone who is so inclined?
There was a time in my life when I believed that courtesy was the highest virtue. Jesus allowed me to learn the hard way that Obedience to Holy Spirit is that highest virtue---because it will always reveal TRUTH----His Name is Jesus.
My Funniest Laying Hands-On Story
We were occasional visitors at a church that had a new associate pastor. This man loved God with all he had but he was walking through some rough spiritual stuff in his personal life. His focus was non-existent and his intentions were a mix of anger and frustration and helplessness.
At the end of his sermon which was someone else's printed off of the internet, he announced that he was going to come through the entire congregation and lay-hands on everyone----imparting his anointing.
Very audibly I said, "You have got to be kidding me!"
As the man approached the section of the crowd where Dave and I were sitting I conceived a brilliant idea----humbly I tell you it was inspired!
I took my handbag---more luggage than handbag in proportions, and threw it onto the floor upside down. It made quite a racket as lipstick, keys, mints, aspirin, kleenex, pills, gum, sunglasses and all rolled under the nearby seats. David and I hit the floor, crawling on hands and knees, picking up little items, looking at each other and giggling.
Moral of the story: Holy Spirit will tell you who has Holy hands and an ordained impartation for you. Courtesy be damned! This is your spiritual life and your holy vessel we are talking about here!
"Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure."
1 Timothy 5:22 Paul is telling Timothy to not rush to ordain people, and to not be in a hurry to remove needed discipline---but there is much to be seen in this as to the principle of laying on hands: Be certain that it is sanctioned by Holy Spirit and that Holy Spirit in you bears witness.
In closing here are some rich words of wisdom on The Anointing from RT Kendall, Pastor of Westminster Chapel, London, England:
"The Anointing then is the Holy Spirit. It is really just another word for the Holy Spirit.
It is one of John's special words for the Holy Spirit.
...I would rather have more of this than anything."
Beloveds, let's purpose in our hearts to Honor Holy Spirit in all ways at all times.
Love and Jesus,
