Why Systems Thinking
You've heard me say that "thinking in systems" is crucial for insight into some of the biggest problems we face such as hunger, poverty, environmental degradation, inner city violence, health and social disparities. The reason is that these issues are essentially system failures.
They cannot and will not be solved by fixing one piece or what the uninitiated views as one facet of the problem in isolation.
When you gain some facility in seeing "systems" and the interdependence of "systems nested within a larger system" you are humbled by the realization that our communities' most vexing problems cannot and will never be solved by our continuing to fix one piece in isolation from the others.
