Systems Thinking, Appreciative Leadership, Social Business
In this e-news, we include Diana Whitney speaking on appreciative leadership, as well as stories with Victor Garcia on systems thinking, Muhammad Yunus on social business and Peggy Holman on creating a narrative of possibility.

It's a collection of some pretty significant ideas, we think, from some pretty significant leaders.

We include these stories and content because we're seeing all of these ideas and approaches coming to bear in some way on this whole-system, Appreciative Inquiry effort underway in Cincinnati.

As always, we welcome any feedback, including suggestions for changes. Please contact michelle@axiomnews.ca, or call 705-741-4421.

Dr. Victor Garcia Presents Systems Perspective on Health Disparities
It's a very strengths-based approach, something everyone can participate in: Ethics Center Fellow
The Ethics Center of Hebrew Union College and the University of Cincinnati invited Dr. Victor Garcia to present a lecture for its ongoing Pat CliffordLeaders in Social Engagement series.

Victor, pediatric surgeon with the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, spoke today, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. on envisioning a Cincinnati without health disparities.

Ethics Center Stone Fellow Pat Clifford, who is co-ordinating the lecture series this year, was a fellow member with Victor of the Cincinnati Regional Chamber 2010-2011 leadership class. He has also been involved with the CoreChange effort Victor is spearheading.

"When I was putting together the series, I thought it would be ideal for him to come and share his way of approaching health care, not just in terms of healing disease, but in terms of creating healthier communities, (which is) more of a systems perspective," Pat tells Axiom News

Pat says he sees systems thinking providing a way for "everyone" to get involved in addressing the issues of health and related disparities.

"This (systems) perspective definitely addresses disparities in a concrete way . . . where you're looking towards creating - not just reducing - health.

"I think it's a very strengths-based approach, something that everyone can participate in, something that you can, no matter where you're at, no matter what your situation, help move forward."

Pat adds he believes it's crucial to involve the faith community in thinking more holistically as well. Click here to read the full story.

Adding Selflessness to Economics
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus shares how social business can transform capitalism
ATLANTA - Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus has helped establish more than 50 companies in his lifetime, yet he doesn't own any of them.
Muhammad Yunus
The former economics professor, who is known as the father of microcredit, creates businesses out of a desire to help others. It's this motivation, he says, that if recognized and encouraged in economic theory, can transform capitalism.

In a one-on-one interview with Axiom News, Yunus outlined how our current economic theory has gone astray by only accounting for one dimension of human behaviour: self interest. This has created a system that champions profit maximization and tramples over many other human desires, like making others happy. Click here to read the full story.

Create a Narrative of Possibility by Adding a New Question: Peggy Holman

Peggy Holman Journalists are well-positioned to lead this change, says thought leader
Peggy Holman has seen first-hand how adding a new question to the five traditionally asked by journalists can spark new energy and a different direction, and it's this question, she's proposing, that can help all of us, journalists or not, create a new narrative of possibility. What are the Possibilities?

In the spirit of what Peggy Holman proposes as a key path to creating a new narrative for our world, we're asking, "What are the greatest possibilities you see in this whole-system, Appreciative Inquiry effort in Cincinnati?"

Something that's come to our minds is seeing Cincinnati as a global leader in building a thriving community, a place people visit to learn what they might apply to their own cities.

We'd very much like to hear your thoughts in answer to this question. Feel free to connect via our Twitter account @cincysummit or by contacting the newsroom at 705-741-4421.
