At a time when the Internet was an open frontier, Gilbert Heffern, then director of communications for the Ontario Long Term Care Association, saw opportunity.

 

The Internet was just finding its legs with a very small percentage of people reading news online. Gilbert saw the potential in it. He embraced the idea of reaching out to the frontline care-providers and families and sharing their stories on this new World Wide Web. What's more, he dispensed with a top-down approval process. He trusted his community. The stories were written and posted online directly. Given the state of things now, the principles from which he moved were prescient. Read More

Jason Campbell says it's through his organization's news service that he's really coming to understand just how much of an impact his colleagues are making on people's lives, and that's exciting for him.

 

The BC Centre for Ability (BCCFA) is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia and provides a wide range of services for children, youth and adults who have a disability, from a brain injury program to employment support services and much more.

 

Through the news service, the Centre has been storying its champions, successses and innovations for about half a year now. Read More
