Democracy in the Workplace: Now I Understand Democracy in the workplace is a cool notion, but it could be viewed as a little obscure if you've never been in the middle of it. Work has a sort of hierarchy, at least as I used to know it. Bosses, presidents and directors make decisions on direction, and those in the lower tiers implement those ideas and make them happen, whether they agree with them or not. Otherwise, they find new jobs. But in the past six months, I've been finding myself immersed in a democratic environment where the opinions I hold are as valued as anyone's.
