Freedom of the press belongs to those who own one. Since the late 1980's, freedom of the press, like democracy in nations and organizations, has become increasingly diffused. From desktop publishing, to fax machines, to e-mail and electronic newsletters, to websites, YouTube and social media, to mobile and tablet apps, technology has shaped who the newsmakers are by transferring press ownership to everyone.
