A Turning Point
It has been said that after a time of decay comes a turning point.
Sovereign state finances wobble. An old capitalism wanes in its appeal. Communities struggle to remain beautiful, vibrant places to live. It would seem the story of the decade is decay. And yet, there isn't much open recognition of that reality. Why? Is it a lack of not knowing how to respond?
What if a turning point were possible? Imagine the creativity and fulfillment that could come from being involved?
We all respond to our environment out of our gifts, true purpose, and the good residing within us.
The stories published in these pages this past week narrate people responding this way and as a result, bringing something better into being.
On first reading, a collection of stories: one about Dante Ingram who has lived into a new vision for himself thanks in part to a no-nonsense, authentic, strengths-based relationship; another about Don't Sweat It, a social enterprise built on the strengths of people with a disability; two stories about the emerging field of social finance; and another with Cincinnati business leader, Greg Otis who says, "I believe in my heart that businesses need to accept their community's sustainable improvement as their business model," could read like a disconnected, post-modern hodge podge.
