Sustainability, Society, Creativity Shaping Our Future

Gerry Faubert says he was struck by the emphasis on sustainability shining through a recent showcase of the projects of HOK, a global architectural firm. Gerry says he's noted a shift in what inspires members of his team. Those who have been in the business for a while as well as those newly entering the field are increasingly engaged in working for sustainability. Gerry says a sense of privilege is developing towards work that includes sustainability as a key design objective.

To use your gifts in support of a greater cause is a privilege indeed. To connect your work with your values and to make a contribution is a sure fire way to energize your talents and your spirit.

Gerry shared with us another experience, a personal one. When assessing his own work over the past decades through a specific lens, a sustainability lens, he is able to see that all of his projects included some element of sustainability. In some way every project made some degree of positive difference in the world.

Sometimes all it takes for us to change our story is to look at it through a different lens. Focusing on one part of the story of our work, like sustainability or social benefit, can bring to light new strengths that might not have otherwise been seen.
