Leaders Who Serve
When David Fish speaks of servant leadership he paints a picture of a workplace coloured by caring rather than compliance. Servant leadership seeks to create an environment in which people understand their own strengths and needs, and find the most complementary environment possible for those strengths to be brought to bear and those needs fulfilled.
Fish also speaks of a work environment in which people are able to be creative and find meaning in their work. Given the many challenges facing the health care sector, where Fish himself serves, the opportunities to be courageous, creative, and caring present themselves with great clarity. The circumstances themselves provide direction as to what would be a meaningful contribution.
It is not difficult to imagine, writing from these pages, a world in which this is the norm: People see an opportunity to make a difference, come up with ways to do it, work together to make the most of their strengths, and bring the new way into reality.
In our stories you will find a growing social innovation space taking shape through social finance and entrepreneurship, strengths-based organizations lifting people to higher heights, and holistic organizations pushing the boundaries of what it is to be an organization to name a few. Read More |
