Leaders Serving Leaders espousing the idea of serving others are working on creating ways to draw out the strengths, gifts, and talents of those in their organization.
Some create entire universities to teach the practices of servant or people-centred leadership in ways specific to the work of their organization. For the first time, a city, Columbus, Georgia, has been named a servant leadership city, in recognition of a whole-system approach to making the most of people's work and place. These efforts are directed at ideals like distributed power and building the kind of world we would like to leave for our children, one in which the work people do in their everyday jobs is both meaningful to them personally and, in the best cases, to society as well. The idea of leadership that serves others rather than serving the leaders themselves has been covered on our pages recently and presents a strong case for the practice.
