Designing a Flourishing Future
Leading designers convened in Toronto Jan. 21 to discuss and imagine a world without oil.

Design guru Bruce Mau proposed a world with oil and much more, noting the time has come to stop defining the future negatively. He suggested

Co-founder of the Biomimicry Guild Dayna Baumeister said we are all responsible for the world we live in and can contribute to redesigning it to eliminate oil. She shared with delegates examples of forward-thinking organizations designing products that mimic nature and are therefore well-adapted to the environment.

International climate engineering firm Transsolar said there are opportunities to create a better environment while reducing oil dependency, and it's time to re-examine how we design our cities to make them beautiful again.

And Sheila Kennedy, co-founder of Boston-based Kennedy and Violich Architecture Ltd. (KVA), shared some of the advancements being made in clean energy.
