CONNECTING
Making a difference
through meaningful
work
More and more people are asking themselves how they make a difference in the world. One of the places they are looking is where they work.

Since the workplace is where most of us spend the majority of our time and talents, it makes sense to make a difference through the work we do every day.

Recent Axiom News coverage digs into meaningful work. Michael Pratt, professor of organization studies at Boston College, says meaning at work may naturally occur as a result of the sense of connection and community people have in the workplace.

Sometimes simply communicating the ways your workplace already benefits society can lead to a heightened sense of meaningful work, he says.

We have also begun coverage on the release of Gallup's book Strengths Based Leadership.

New research shows the importance of leaders investing in people's strengths - the employee engagement odds are much higher in workplaces where strengths are cultivated.

The book also sheds light on what makes an effective leader. It argues that leaders  are not necessarily 'well-rounded' or possess a single, particular strength. Strengths-based leaders know what their personal strengths are and include those with other strengths on their teams in order to build well-rounded leadership.

Leisureworld increases its corporate news coverage frequency
News program to engage and inform stakeholders Leisureworld Senior Care LP, the third largest long-term care and retirement home operator in Ontario, has increased the frequency of its corporate news program.

The company, which launched its online corporate news program in January 2008, is now publishing stories every weekday. News stories were previously published three times per week. It is also increasing the publishing of its print newspaper from quarterly to monthly.

As a result of publishing more stories each week, Lisa Egan, Leisureworld's vice-president of communications, says she hopes readers develop a stronger understanding of the company and what it's doing to position itself as a leader in the sector through the services it offers.

"I'd like for there to be a clearer understanding of what our mission is and who we are and what makes us unique in the community. Long-term care providers are not like other care providers, so what makes us unique?" Read More
