Deadline 2020: An End to Breast Cancer

Welcome to the summer edition of our e-newsletter Advocacy in Action! We hope you are enjoying your summer! Here at DBCC we have been busy gearing up for our upcoming fall events. Look down the left-hand column and check out all the different events from 5Ks to a Survivor Cruise to our Northern Lights of Life Gala!

This summer, we have also been training new volunteers and peer mentors and attending health fairs and events. Our survivorship programs are in full swing in the summer months as survivors gather outdoors for the Nurture with Nature program or focus on healthy living with the Survivor Social events.

We hope you'll enjoy reading the newsletter. This edition has a great Ask the Doctor Section about survivorship care, a story about a married couple who both battled breast cancer, and much more.

We'll be sending a special
Breast Cancer Awarenesss Month newsletter out in October so keep an eye out for it!

We hope to see you at a DBCC event soon! There will be a lot of opportunities to support DBCC as we move into the fall months.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. Consider making a gift to DBCC today to help fund our programs in the local community. Every dollar counts!

Married with Breast Cancer: Kent County Couple Both Battle Breast Cancer

When Mike Smith was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, he was shocked since breast cancer in men is so rare. But eight years later he was even more shocked when his wife Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer too.
Read the story about Mike and Sarah's breast cancer journeys and how they have become advocates and volunteers for DBCC.

Ask the Doctor: Survivorship Care Info with Dr. Sawhney of Bayhealth

As breast cancer survivors know, completion of treatment does not mark the end of the breast cancer journey. Dr. Sawhney of Bayhealth Cancer Institute shares important information about survivorship care and life after treatment.

Click here to read about some of the side effects following treatment, how survivors should monitor their health and ways that you can help your own care

Volunteer Spotlight: June Burton

When June Burton of Rehoboth Beach was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago, she thought she knew what to expect since she had been an oncology nurse for over 20 years. But now being on the other side of things, June reached out to DBCC for support.

Click here to read more about her experience with DBCC's Peer Mentor Support Program and how she now volunteers with DBCC. She even got to meet Hoda Kotb, co-host of The Today Show this summer volunteering at a DBCC event (pictured).

Mobile Mammography Van Has Another Successful Year With Screenings

DBCC Annual Fund: Your Gifts at Work...

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition offers programs to breast cancer survivors free or charge. Survivors can gather outdoors with the Nurture with Nature program or meet for a social gathering with the Survivor Socials programs. Survivors can also participate in a training to become a Peer Mentor for a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient.

Individual donations help make these programs possible. Your gift can help make a difference to those impacted by breast cancer in your community. Please consider making a gift to DBCC today!
As always, we appreciate your support of DBCC and thank you for reading!  We encourage you to give us feedback about the articles and information.  You can follow and comment on our blog, "like" and comment on our Facebook posts, follow DBCC on Twitter and "retweet" to your followers, and view our event photos on Flickr.
