Greetings!

Welcome to the special October edition of our e-newsletter Advocacy in Action!  It has been a very busy month for DBCC with lots of education & outreach events and fundraisers in the community.

And today is the last day of October, marking the last day of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While the color pink may soon transition to holiday colors, please remember the fight against breast cancer is every month.

This year in Delaware, approximately 810 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. We encourage you to join the fight right here in Delaware. You can volunteer, donate, partner with DBCC, or simply help spread the word.

Recently DBCC kicked off its 2011-2012 Annual Fund campaign. The tagline this year is "meeting the needs of those we serve" and that is the goal of our programs and services written about in this newsletter. The Annual Fund supports programs which provide access to mammography, support for those newly diagnosed, valuable information about clinical trials, and education & outreach for the underserved communities. Please consider supporting DBCC's mission with a gift to the Annual Fund today - every dollar makes a difference!

We hope you will take a few moments to read the articles below about our programs and some important information about breast cancer and breast health.

Thank you!

Do plastic water bottles or birth control pills cause birth control? How do the BRCA genes affect breast cancer risk? Does the radiation from mammograms cause cancer?

There are a lot of myths about breast cancer. We asked Dr. Jon Strasser, DBCC Board Member, to give us the facts. Click here to read what you need to know about breast cancer.
