Crossroads e-Newsletter
  March 2012
TopGreetings!

Happy Spring (sort of)! This month, Crossroads has more exciting outpatient group options to announce, including the Professional Men's Recovery Group and a free  4-week educational series for friends and family members affected by a loved one's addiction.

And did you know March is Social Worker Month? It is! Take some time to meet our outpatient counselors and thank them for all the good work they do!
Next month, Crossroads will offer a new outpatient therapy group designed specifically for professional men in recovery.

The Professional Men's Recovery Group will provide recovering professional men a confidential setting to discuss issues related to the impact of mental health and addiction on their professional lives.

The group helps professional men increase their understanding of setting realistic expectations on themselves and how to manage stress in healthy ways.

Bryce Libby, LCSW, LADC will run the group, which will be held at Crossroads' Greater Portland Counseling Center in Scarborough. The group starts on 4/25/12 and will meet on Wednesdays from 5:30pm - 7:00pm.

For more information or to join this group, please call 207.773.991.

The Effects of Addiction on Friends & Family Educational Series is Back!
helping hands
In the past, Crossroads ran a popular educational series designed for family members and friends who are affected by a loved one's addiction. We are excited to bring the series back. This time, we're offering the 4-week series in our Scarborough location free of charge, and you don't have to worry about parking in the Old Port!

"The Effects of Addiction on Friends & Family" educational series is for anyone who has a loved one with a substance abuse problem, male or female, who may or may not be in treatment. Those who work with people affected by addiction also find this series helpful.

The 4-week series covers: The Basics of Addiction, The Effects of Addiction on the User & Family & Friends, Relapse & Recovery, and The Do's & Don'ts. While we just had a new series start last week (3/22/12), you may still join the group for the rest of the sessions. See the sidebar or visit our therapy groups page for details.

We hope to offer this educational series on a regular basis. If you are interested in attending a series now or in the future, please let us know so we can alert you when the next free session starts. Give us a call at 207.773.9931 or email.

articlethreeMarch is Social Worker Month!

Did you know that March is (or was, as we finish the month) Social Worker Month?

Social workers provide most of the country's mental health services. Clinically trained social workers make up 60% of mental health professionals, while psychologists (23%), psychiatrists (10%) and psychiatric nurses (5%) encompass a smaller percentage.

Social workers help people of all ages and backgrounds overcome some of life's most difficult challenges.

Crossroads' clinical team includes a talented group of professional social workers and psychologists who bring broad experience and different points of views to its clients. All of our counselors have a minimum of a master's level education.

An Updated Definition of Recovery From SAMHSA
Last December,
SAMHSA announced it's working definition of recovery, along with a set of guiding principles. The definition was the result of a lengthy process that involved service providers, recovery advocates, and other stakeholders.

According to their blog, SAMHSA has received enough public input that they have decided to release a new version of the definition...  Read More
