PHILADELPHIA MAGAZINE
DESIGN HOME UPDATE
It is really happening now! The addition is underway, the first and second floors are dry walled and the new windows are in place. There is always a flurry of activity at the Philadelphia Magazine Design Home. We are so thrilled to be the designers for all of this wonderful project again this year. We are busy picking tiles and hardwood, carpet and cabinets, window treatment fabrics and area rugs. Paint colors are selected to provide a classic home with an updated look. Mark your calendars for September 10 to October 9 to tour the Design Home. You don't want to miss this 1920's Main Line house and the opportunity to support the Ronald McDonald House.
STARTING OVER
Although our lovely client had an impressive penthouse apartment, it just didn't feel like home. When she decided to move to a new townhome, it was an overwhelming task. That's where we came in! Our job was to help her make good decisions on what existing pieces she could use and what new pieces could be added.
We started by taking an inventory of all of her current furniture and found out how she felt about each piece. Next, we were able to create a floor plan incorporating some new pieces and some of the existing pieces. For this homeowner, the living room is the heart of this home and her personal space. We determined how she intended to use this area and then set to work to make this reflect her personality. We chose a comfortable chair for reading by the fireplace (there is no TV in this room), and added seating for family and guests. The windows are framed with a wonderful silk fabric that disguises the head rail of the fabric roller shade underneath when it is not needed for privacy. Continuing the journey, we incorporated a chair, lamp, side table, area rug and artwork from her apartment. Then we added a new zebra print chair to spice it up a bit. Finally, new artwork over the fireplace, a more appropriately sized sofa and a tapestry completed the other side of the room. You can see a corner of her favorite swivel chairs that we added with her table and accessories to the other end of this room.

Sofas that were previously used in the living room are now in the large basement to accommodate her 10 grandchildren where they now have a comfortable place to watch a movie or play video games. There is even room for some of the parents to use. Now Meghan has a home that feels warm and inviting. In a year we will add some color to the walls (some builders recommend waiting) and this room will be complete!
