~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * A Deeply Inspiring Near-Death Experience Mellen-Thomas Benedict is an artist who survived a near-death experience in 1982. He was dead for over an hour and a half. During that time, he rose up out of his body and went into the light. Curious about the universe, he was taken far into the remote depths of existence, and even beyond, into the energetic void of nothingness behind the Big Bang. Eminent near-death experience researcher Dr. Kenneth Ring has said, "His story is one of the most remarkable I have encountered in my extensive research on near- death experiences." http://www.weboflove.org/neardeathexperience * The Director of National Intelligence argued that Wall Street, rather than Islamic jihad, has produced our most dangerous terrorists. By Chris Hedges, a Pulitzer prize-winning reporter, is a Senior Fellow at the Nation Institute. We have a remarkable ability to create our own monsters. A few decades of meddling in the Middle East with our Israeli doppelgnger and we get Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Qaida, the Iraqi resistance movement and a resurgent Taliban. Now we trash the world economy and destroy the ecosystem and sit back to watch our handiwork. Hints of our brave new world seeped out Thursday when Washington's new director of national intelligence, retired Adm. Dennis Blair, testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee. He warned that the deepening economic crisis posed perhaps our gravest threat to stability and national security. It could trigger, he said, a return to the "violent extremism" of the 1920s and 1930s. http://www.alternet.org/rights/127252/u.s._intel_chief%27s_shocking_warning%3A_wall_street%27s_disaster_has_spawned_our_greatest_terrorist_threat/
* Is the trillion dollar bank bail-out wise? - From Joseph Stieglitz, Nobel-prize winning economist, former head of the World Bank, comes this CNN talk questioning the wisdom of the trillion dollar bank bail-outs. We gave the banks hundreds of billions to start lending again, and instead they're just hoarding the cash, waiting until things settle down. America's recession is moving into its second year, with the situation only worsening. The hope that President Obama will be able to get us out of the mess is tempered by the reality that throwing hundreds of billions of dollars at the banks has failed to restore them to health, or even to resuscitate the flow of lending. Every day brings further evidence that the losses are greater than had been expected and more and more money will be required.The question is at last being raised: Perhaps the entire strategy is flawed? Perhaps what is needed is a fundamental rethinking. Read more (from Alternet) http://www.alternet.org/workplace/124166/
* Projected decline in world food production From Eric de Carbonel, of Global Research, comes this sobering overview of our situation, country by country as the world's food sup ply is likely to decline by 20 to 40% in 2009. "After reading about the droughts in two major agricultural countries, China and Argentina, I decided to research the extent other food producing nations were also experiencing droughts. This project ended up taking a lot longer than I thought. 2009 looks to be a humanitarian disaster around much of the world. The countries that make up two thirds of the world's agricultural output are experiencing drought conditions. Whether you watch a video of the drought in China, Australia, Africa, South America, or the US , the scene will be the same: misery, ruined crop, and dying cattle."
