Upcoming Workshop: Alchemical Divination and Yogic Chant
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ralph Metzner and Sylvia Nakkach
November 15, 2008, Emeryville, CA
Alchemy, akin to shamanism and yoga, is the ancient art and science
of elemental transformation - at physical, emotional, mental and
spiritual levels. Divination is a structured inquiry to access inner
knowledge of the past, for healing and problem solving; and of the
future, for visioning and guidance. We work in the spirit of the Roman
deity Janus, god of doorways and passageways, whose two faces are
turned to the past and the (probable) futures. We use concentrative
light-fire meditation, supported by sounding and toning, to raise
consciousness beyond the usual timespace framework and facilitate the
integration of the insights received.
As
part of the sacred sound experience of this workshop, we explore
Indigenous shamanic traditions that use rhythms to induce altered state
trance journeys, and 'spirit songs' for healing, as in Amazonian
medicine ceremonies, and Yogic traditions that use mantras or sacred
seed syllables (like OM) to bring about one-pointed concentration and
deep inner states of absorption. As we delve into the transformative
qualities of devotional chant, we learn about Nada Yoga (seed sounds),
Shabda Yoga (mantra), Bhava Yoga (raga), Tibetan Tantric chant, and
other practices of consciousness transformation, healing, and
divination, facilitated by sound.
In this 14-page open letter published in the NY Times, he lays out the phenomenally complex webs linking sustainable food production, energy independence, public health and climate change. Filled with insights and provocative challenges for new and needed policies. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/12/magazine/12policy-t.html?scp=9&sq=michael%20pollen&st=cse
* Primer on climate change policies and solutions by Starhawk In this 20-page essay Earth activist and permaculture trainer Starhawk provides a succinct list of doable solutions to move our society and economy to zero-carbon, nuclear-free sustainability. * Communities as financial safe havens by Catherine Austin Fitts In this brief essay from her website www.solari.com, Fitts, one of the most astute commentators on financial issues, who has been advocating for moving investments and cash flow from the centralized national to the local and regional, spells out how this could work out in practice. New models for community investment are needed and being developed.
* Elizabeth Klarer's Beyond the Light Barrier republished. This is an autobiographical account of perhaps the most astonishing, incredible, yet convincing UFO/ET contact experience of our times. Elizabeth Klarer was a South African scientist who willingly entered into an intimate love relationship with an ET visitor called Akon, an astrophysicist from a planet in the star system Proxima Centauri - at 4.3 light years distance, our nearest stellar neighbor. Elizabeth was taken in Akon's spaceship to his home planet, gave birth to a child they had conceived - and was safely returned to Earth. The book includes fascinating detailed descriptions of the light-propulsion system used by the spaceship. The book, first published in 1980, has been out of print. The new edition is available from www.beyondthelightbarrier.com
