Music Makes Working Out Easier
Music workoutAccording to medical studies across the globe, listening to the right music can increase the effectivness of your workout.  By listening to upbeat music with beats per minute (BPM) that match our heart rates, our brains will focus on the noise rather than the signals our brains are sending us telling us to quit exercising.

One study that supports this theory was conducted by the Liverpool John Morris University and monitored the speeds and effort output of a group of cyclist listening to music as they pedaled. The researchers secretly increased and decreased the speed of the songs by 10% and found that the cyclist unconsciously matched their pace and effort  with the tempo of the music.

Other interesting studies found that: subjects who cycled to music required 7% less oxygen and people who ran to synchronized music experienced a 15% increase in endurance.

To help you find music that will increase your exercise effectiveness, try Tangerine, a software plug-in tool that integrates with your iTunes library. Tangerine can customize a playlist for your workouts that is based on the BPM range you specify, which will keep your muscles and your ears in harmony.

What Your Cravings Really Mean
Food cravings are often the downfall of any attempt at dieting. But sometimes, a craving can be a clue to what our bodies really need. After some research, we compiled a list of food cravings, what your body might really be lacking and then a healthier alternative.

You crave: Chocolate     You need: Magnesium          So try: Raw nuts and fruit

You crave: Salty foods   You need: Hydration             So try: Drinking water

You crave: Bread             You need: Nitrogen               So try: High protein foods

You crave: Sugar             You need: Energy                  So try: Carbs

(For a complete list of food cravings and what they mean, visit this website.)

So before you reach for the candy bar, sugary soda or bag of potato chips, decode what your food cravings really mean and try the healthy alternative instead. You might just beat the craving and the extra pounds!
