YOURS ARE THE HANDS OF CHRIST: The Practice of Faith Sometimes we want to spiritualize our faith. What is important is to practice our faith as we take it out into the world and follow in the steps of Jesus. As we contemplate all that Jesus did with his hands, we are reminded to get busy with our own hands and feet and love of Christ wherever we are. This Week: "Feeding Hands" John 6:1-14 How can two fish and five loaves of bread feed five thousand people? That's just outrageous, you may say. A key phrase in this passage is "and when he had given thanks." Before Jesus does anything, he gives thanks to God for what He has provided. One explanation of this story I have heard is that Jesus did not miraculously multiply the fish and loaves, but that when all the people gathered there combined their resources, all were able to be fed, with extra left over. When we use our hands to feed those who may not have enough, we are being the hands of Christ. This weekend, being World Communion Sunday, we want to get back to the basics of the Lord's Supper, or Holy Communion. We will all come to the table and be served the bread of life in remembrance of what God, through Christ, has done for us. Invite a friend or neighbor to join you in worship this weekend. See you in worship. Pastor Wiley Gladney |
