 Thought for the Day:

Christ has no hands now on Earth but yours.

YOURS ARE THE HANDS OF CHRIST:

THE PRACTICE OF FAITH

Sometimes we want to spiritualize our faith. What is important is to practice our faith as we take it out into the world and follow in the steps of Jesus. As we contemplate all that Jesus did with his hands, we are reminded to get busy with our own hands and feet and love of Christ wherever we are.

This Week:  "Teaching Hands"

Deuteronomy 4:9-14

We began our current sermon series on the Hands of Christ with "Serving Hands." This week Pastor Susan will preach about "Teaching Hands."

In the scripture text for this week we find Moses instructing the people of Israel to never forget the ordinances that the Lord had commanded them to follow. Moses says to the people to not forget the things they have seen and learned and to "make them known to your children and your children's children."
Teaching our children is a very integral part of the Christian life, and this week in worship we will lift up the noble endeavor of being the hands of Christ by teaching.

We also come together to celebrate the 109th anniversary of our congregation. The foundation and memorials committee will say a few words in recognition of this anniversary. They have also graciously provided cake and punch in the Jones Narthex for this occasion and everyone is invited to enjoy a time of fellowship after the worship services. Members who have been a part of our congregation 40 years or more will also be recognized during the service this week.

The Staff Parish Relations Committee will introduce Rev. Don Francis to the congregation. Rev. Francis is a member of our congregation and will join the staff as Pastor of Legacy Ministry.

We have much to celebrate this weekend and it is wonderful to see that we are a vibrant and vital congregation after 109 years of ministry in this community. Please invite a friend or neighbor to join you this weekend in worship.
Blessings,

Pastor Wiley Gladney

THIRD GRADE BIBLE PRESENTATION - This weekend is a special celebration for our 3rd grade students.  On Friday, Sept. 23, from 5:30-7:00 p.m., 3rd grade students, parents and teachers are invited to a pizza dinner in Fellowship Hall.  They will enjoy a meal and have some fun together as well as prepare for Sunday's Bible presentation.  The students will also paint and decorate their own Bible cover or bag and enjoy a few Bible games & activities. On Sunday, 3rd grade students will receive their Bibles during the 10:30 a.m. worship service.  If you have a 3rd grade student who has NOT received information about this event, please contact Dana Saxton at dsaxton@umcwfb.org or 414-964-2424 x113 as soon as possible.

KNOWLEDGE - Discovering something new so you can be better at whatever you do.  This month's virtue lesson in Sunday school is KNOWLEDGE.  The children are learning Bible stories about Jesus growing up, learning and teaching.  The memory verse this month is "And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man." Luke 2:52

NEW Controlled Access Security Doors - We are pleased to share that we have finished installation of a controlled access security system to improve security for the children in weekday ministries at UMCWFB. This system includes a new door next to the playroom on the ground floor and controlled access locks on four interior doors on the upper and lower floors that lead to the preschool and daycare classrooms. These doors will be secured primarily Monday through Friday from 6 am to 6 pm. Controlled access doors are unlocked after 6 pm and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Church staff, Ministry leaders, Preschool & Daycare parents have key cards to gain access. Visitors may obtain a key card at the front office when needed. This new system was paid for by Carpenter's Shop and Tree of Life ministries.
