LOVE AND PEACE

Ephesians Chapter 2

Ephesians 2:8-9 packs a strong punch when it comes to "theological truths" in scripture. It reads' "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God- not the result of works, so that no one may boast." I could preach a month of Sundays just on these two verses. But this week we are focusing on the theme of Peace and Love, using Ephesians chapter two as our starting point.

Much of what it means to live out these two verses in our every day life involves living with one another in love and peace. Jesus said, "My peace I give to you" and "Peace be with you" when he appeared to his disciples after his resurrection. So what does it mean to have the peace of Christ?

Corinthians chapter 13 is St. Paul's great "Love Chapter" that is read many times during weddings. But the love Paul is talking about here is not the love between a husband and wife, but the love we should have for one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Love and peace are not just themes that were the focus of the 1960's and 70's; they are themes that run through all of the New Testament, and the Bible as a whole.  Join us this Sunday as we celebrate God's Love and Peace in a 70' s praise and worship service at 9:00 AM. If you would rather forget the 70's (or don't care to remember or experience them) come to our traditional services on Saturday at 5:00, or Sunday at 8:00 and 10:30. And don't forget to invite a friend or neighbor to worship this week.

If I ask you who you invited this week, I don't want to be disappointed.

See you in worship,

Pastor Wiley Gladney

Special UMCOR offering for Horn of Africa famine relief. This Sunday at 9:00 service.

As you read this, hundreds are dying of starvation in Somalia. Researchers say that by November, 1 in 10 children in Somalia will be dead from starvation.

Severe drought in the horn of Africa is causing widespread hunger and starvation. This situation has reached historic proportions as a severe famine overtakes the region.

But you can make a difference by contributing to the relief efforts of UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, who is now on the ground working to get food aid to those who need it in this ravaged region of our world. Please make checks payable to UMCOR and indicate Horn of Africa famine relief in the memo line. Whatever you contribute today, may become the answer to somebody's prayers for help.

COMING THIS FALL - THINK ORANGE!

ORANGE? What's ORANGE you ask? ORANGE is a secondary color, created when you combine two primary colors - red and yellow. ORANGE is a path, a strategy that combines the strength of two-yellow and red-to create the brilliance of another, Orange. By combining the critical influences of the light of the church and the love of the family, the Orange strategy synchronizes efforts and shows a generation who God is, more effectively than either could alone. Watch for more about ORANGE this fall!
