 Thought for the Day:
Jesus did not come to make God's love possible, but to make God's love visible.

This Week: Ordinary People (Mr. Potato Head)
1 Corinthians 12:12-27

Two weeks ago we began a sermon series which looks at some of the iconic toys of our time and how they connect with God's message to us in scripture.  This week we are looking at Mr. Potato Head.

The Mr Potato Head toy was invented in 1949 by a man named George Lerner and over one million units were sold in its first year of production. Originally, the toy did not have a plastic potato body, but was a kit with many pieces that children would place on real potatoes and other vegetables. Mr Potato Head was also the first toy to be advertised on television!

Mr Potato Head's various pieces can be arranged in many different ways, to appear silly, goofy and  funny or plain and ordinary. There are a thousand various configurations of the parts that Mr Potato Head can take on. In the same way, all of us are varied and unique. We all have different gifts and talents to share, but we are all part of the same body, the body of Christ. This weekend we will look at a classic metaphor that Paul uses to describe the church, with the goal of seeing ourselves as members of Christ's body.

Don't forget to bring a friend along to worship with you this weekend!

See you then,

Pastor Wiley Gladney
