This Week: Handmade People (Play Doh) Colossians 3:12-21
Last week we began a sermon series which looks at some of the iconic toys of our time and how they connect with God's message to us in scripture. This week we are looking at Play Doh. Did you know that Play Doh started out as a wallpaper cleaning compound? That Play Doh is 54 years old this year? While I didn't know those facts about Play Doh, what I know is that a new can of brightly colored Play Doh is like having a brand new box of crayons. Even as an adult it is irresistible. The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah talk about God as the potter and our lives being like clay. Paul in his letter to the people at Colossae speaks of the ways in which God would like to hand make us in his image. God would mold us to have hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience - hearts that are able to forgive, live with gratitude and love. The ultimate question, I believe, is are we willing to place the clay of our lives into the potter's hands? I hope that you will take time to invite someone to come to worship with you this weekend. See you this weekend. Blessings, Pastor Susan |
