 Thought for the Day:
Our strength is but little. Alone and unaided we cannot handle even our own lives well, nor can we pit ourselves against the vast evil of hostile circumstances. Only with thy power in us and through us can we be adequate.
-Harry Emerson Fosdick

The Parables of Jesus:

The Good Samaritan

            Luke 10:25-37

Jesus asks us the question, "Are you like the Levite or the Samaritan?"  It is the question we will ponder as we look at a familiar story this week in worship.

It is a perfect week for us to look at the Story of the Good Samaritan and reflect on the ways in which we are willing to help other people.  There are so many ways in which we have been an example of this aspect of discipleship.  We have the opportunity to help those who are hungry by bringing non-perishable food items to worship with us for the food pantry at United Methodist Children's Services.  Need is particularly great during the summer as children do not have free meal programs through school.  We will hear of some of the experiences of our youth and adults who were in Perry County, Kentucky and reaching out to families they have never met before as they work to provide safer, drier, warmer homes.  We have adults in Nome, Alaska who are putting in new windows and painting the Community Youth Center which provides a safe place for children and youth who otherwise might be on the street.  Our youngest children are learning how to love all people as Jesus did.  There are many examples of how we are willing to help those who are in need. In Jesus' parable, he teaches us of this caring and outreach is to be a natural part of our lives.

I invite you to invite a friend or two to worship with you this weekend.  This weekend is always one of the highlights of our church year.

See you this weekend!

Pastor Susan

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL CELEBRATION @ 9:00 Worship

During our 9:00 AM worship service this Sunday, our VBS children will share some of their learnings with us. Following worship the children and their families will head to Fellowship Hall where the Saturday Men's Ministry is hosting a pancake breakfast for them.

The children are having a great time! The adults are doing an awesome job.  It is so much fun to hear their happy voices as they learn new songs and stories from the Bible.  Each day they are memorizing a Bible verse.  Today, Tuesday, they learned the tools that Jesus had to keep him strong and make the right decisions when he was tempted in the desert.  Some of the tools Jesus had to be a Superhero included prayer, regular worship, learning Bible stories and loving all people.  Along with many volunteers, Dana Saxton, Christy West, Monica Bessette and Neil Bubke have been involved in provided Christ centered leadership this week.

ASP mission group returns during 10:30 Worship!

Join us in worship at 10:30 on July 24 as we welcome back the ASP mission team and celebrate their service in Appalachia.

Twelve teams have been hard at work in Kentucky.  The word that has come back is that it is very hot, but spirits are high!  Relationships are being made with the families that are being served.  The families have gone out of their way to share their gratitude with the teams.    Some of the projects that are being worked on include a new roof, new windows, drywall, gutters, grading.  Many of our youth (and perhaps some of our adults) are learning new skills everyday!  Keep them in your prayers and be sure to be present to welcome them home!

During worship, a few of the youth will share some of the experiences they have had and where they experienced God this week.  Eric Rose, Director of Student Ministries is with the group of 84.
