 Thought for the Day:

Capitalism thrives in a climate where "rights" are the main political agenda. [In this climate] the church becomes one more consumer-oriented organization, existing to encourage individual fulfillment rather than being a crucible to engender individual conversion into the Body.

-from Resident Aliens by Bishop Will Willimon and Stanley Hauerwas

This Weekend:
THE POLITICS OF JESUS

Many people say that politics do not belong in the church. That pastors should never discuss politics from the pulpit, because, after all, Jesus was not a political figure. Right? Well no. We realize that Jesus did indeed have a political stance when we remember that politics consists of "social relations involving authority and power."  In this section of scripture Jesus speaks about those in authority and those with no authority, those who are powerful and those who are powerless, and how we as Jesus' followers should relate to others in the world.

Much has been said in the past about how the church should be in the world but not of the world. The church need not worry about whether to be in the world. The church's only concern is how  to be in the world, in what form, for what purpose.

Join us as we search Jesus' words for direction on how to be the church in the world on this weekend we celebrate  independence and freedom!
Remember to invite a friend to worship this week!
May God bless his children, in America and around the world,

Rev. Wiley Gladney
