 Thought for the Day:

Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind. You are as old as your doubt, your fear, your despair. The way to keep young is to keep your faith young. Keep your self-confidence young. Keep your hope young.

-Luella F. Phean

During these spring weekends we will take a look at a variety of issues related to family.  We will look to scripture and the traditions of the church to help us grow in our own situations and circumstances to understand more fully how to support and encourage others who are in situations differing from ourselves. For a listing of the entire series click here.

May 14/15:   GROWING OLD WITH GRACE

Psalm 71:5-7, 17-19

-What have been the unexpected blessings of growing older?

-What have been the challenges associated with growing older?

-How has your faith changed as you have grown older?

-What has been an important piece of advice someone has given you about growing older?

-What piece of advice or wisdom would you like to share with younger generations?

As you prepare for worship this weekend, how would you answer these questions?

One of the greatest asessts of our congregation is that we  are truly intergenerational.  There are persons from all stages of life that are a part of our church family.  People like that.

This is not true of most United Methodist churches.  I hear stories of people lamenting every week that they do not have young people.  A friend of mine served a congregation that didn't have any older people. What I think that our having all generations says about us is that we are willing to be flexible and open and willing to help others from a different generation than ourselves find a home within this Body.

This week we are only going to scratch the service on growing older with grace.   Joan Chittister says "The moment that we become conscious that we are no longer young,we become an even more valuable resource to others in our lives than we ever were before."  Come and join us this weekend as we reflect upon growing older and growing with the wisdom and grace God offers to each of us.

Maybe you know an older adult who does not have a church home and is living by themselves or have just moved into the area.  Take a moment and invite them to come with you.

This will also be an exciting weekend as we will hear from the Honduras mission team who just returned and receive new members at 10:30 am.

See you in church this weekend!

Pastor Susan

Annual Church Conference Potluck and Meeting

May 23, 2011

6 PM, Fellowship Hall

Our annual church conference is coming soon.  All members and friends of our congregation are welcome to attend.  All members may vote on anything that is before us.

The annual church conference meeting is the time when we gather to hear about the state of our church, remember that we are connected to the United Methodist Church through the Wisconsin Annual Conference, celebrate what we have accomplished and recognize that God still expects a lot of us in the future, vote on issues that are pertinent to our church right now and vote on issues that need to be voted on per the polity of our denomination.

The agenda for this meeting has already been set.  You may pick up a copy of the agenda for the meeting in the church office at any time.  The booklets that hold all of our annual reports are nearing completion and will be available to be picked up before the meeting as well.

Childcare will be provided.  Children are welcome to be part of the meal.  You may RSVP in the church office or through the JOY Notes.

Holy Land Trip Informational Meeting

May 14, 10 am

Pastor Susan's office

A group from this church will be heading to the Holy Lands on October 18, 2011.  Several persons will also be adding an extension tour to Egypt onto the trip.

The first time that I traveled to the Holy Lands was at the time of my ordination.  Bishop David Lawson had a vision that he would take all elders and their spouses or a friend to the Holy Lands.  Several people in this congregation helped to make that trip possible for me.  It was one of the most formative, if not the most formative experience that I have had.  Seeing the places where Jesus and the disciples lived, walked and taught is simply amazing.  Being able to read the Bible and picture the place where the event could have taken place truly helps scripture to come alive.  Learning about the ways in which the same land is important to Jews, Christians and Muslims has made me more aware of the news and plight of many.

We will be traveling to these same places.

The travel agency coordinating our trip has said that July 5 is the latest one can register for this trip.  If you and any of your friends are interested, I invite you to join me for a short meeting to share information and answer questions this Saturday or in June.  There are also brochures available in the Jones Narthex at the information Center.
