 Thought for the Day:

Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that God is giving you.

Deuteronomy 5:16

During these spring weekends we will take a look at a variety of issues related to family.  We will look to scripture and the traditions of the church to help us grow in our own situations and circumstances to understand more fully how to support and encourage others who are in situations differing from ourselves. For a listing of the entire series click here.

April 30/May 1: MAKING FAMILY A PRIORITY

                       Youth/Children led worship

There is an old saying that holds a lot of truth: "You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family."  God gave you your parents - your brothers or sisters; God gave you your children, and God has no exchange policy.  Your family is yours for life.  God not only created us to be in relationship with others but to be a part of a family.

Family relationships are at the center of all human relationships.  It's the place where each of us begin to learn about how relationships work.  Family relationships are:

F - orgiving

A - uthentic

M - agnetic

I - nstruct

L - oyal

Y - ield to one another

So how can we improve our family relationships? How can we place God's design for healthy relationships back in our families?  Join us this weekend as the youth & children of our church lead all four worship services and reflect on what it means to make healthy families a priority.

Happy Mother's Day!  A special celebration of mothers is planned for each of the services.  "New Moms" will also be recognized at the 9 & 10:30 a.m. services.

This is one of several special Sundays when elementary-age children (K5-5th grade) are encouraged to be in worship with their families - therefore there will be no Rotational Sunday school.  Childcare (0-2 yr) and Preschool (2 yrs to K4) Sunday school will be offered at 9 & 10:30 a.m.

Blessings,

Taize Worship

Friday 7:30

Sanctuary

The heart of Taizé prayer reflects a quiet, peaceful receptivity before God. Musicians, singers, and liturgists lead with a minimal sense of being in the spotlight, in that they are either not seen in center front, or are scattered throughout the assembly. In this way, individuals feel a more direct communion with God.

                     Stewardship Update

Take a moment and complete your commitment card today!   You can complete your card online at www.umcwfb.org/stewardship or bring the card that was mailed to you to worship and place it in the offering plate.

Additional commitment cards can be downloaded at www.umcwfb.org/stewardship or obtained by contacting Business Manager Pam Vaughan at pvaughan@umcwfb.org.  Letters with cards to those who have not returned their commitments will go out at the end of this week.  Phone calls by the Stewardship Team will begin May 9.

The pace has been slow at receiving cards this year, however, the commitments we have received have shown financial increases.  The economy has still been difficult for many persons and there are those in our congregation who continue to be unemployed or recently unemployed.  As we pull together offering the best that we have to offer to God in these days we 1.  grow in our faith through the spiritual discipline of giving 2. we continue ministries that continue to make a difference in people's lives and 3. we care for one another.  This truly is a beautiful picture of Christian community and of Christ's church.  Thank you.
