Sermon Series: 29 Days of Giving
April 2/3: COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS AND MAKE YOUR BLESSINGS COUNT
Luke 12:13-21
During our 29 Days of Giving focus, we not only are focusing on the gifts that we give to others, but also the gifts that we receive from others. How many times a day are we blessed by someone else, whether it be a kind word or gesture, lending a helping hand or just by being a listening ear? My grandmother placed a penny over her bedroom doorway reminding her daily to count her blessings. By being intentional about seeing the gifts we receive from others, we recognize that we are truly blessed by God.
We cannot keep for ourselves all the blessings we receive, or be preoccupied with possessions. This is the lesson of the parable of the rich fool. Rather than looking at how he could bless others by his abundance of blessing, he tried to store up for himself all that he had. However, this did not impress God in the least. It only showed how self centered and greedy the man really was.
This Sunday evening we will come together to celebrate the ways in which we have all been blessed by giving and receiving thus far in our 29 days by sharing in an all church potluck. Please see the article below for more info and to RSVP.
If you have a story of how you have been blessed and would like to share it with the church, please send it to me at wgladney@umcwfb.org.
Don't be shy in inviting a friend or neighbor to worship. See you then!
Blessings,
Pastor Wiley Gladney
