METHODISM FOR TODAY

Is the United Methodist denomination and tradition still relevant in the 21st century?  Unequivocally yes!  I can think of no better denomination and tradition that can provide a solid foundation for living a life in Christ and for Christ in the world.  John Wesley, the founder of Methodism believed that a life of service to the world was the fruit of a heart touched by Christ.

February 12/13  :  METHODISM FOR TODAY

                               THE FAITH OF A METHODIST

                               Ephesians 2.8-10

Looking at the beliefs of the United Methodist tradition is a topic that finds its way onto my desk every year.  When I ask for input on sermon topics each year, this interest in our denominational beliefs always shows up.  Why? I believe that it comes from the fact that there are more people who are a part of our congregation that come from a tradition other than Methodist than who do.

This week we are beginning our three week series.  We will look at what shaped John Wesley's (the founder of Methodism) faith and life and what of his life continues to shape ours through being part of this church.

I am very excited about these next couple of weeks.  I love talking about our tradition and the way in which it frames our on-going relationship with Christ.  I get excited when new persons to the United Methodist Church learn a lot and when persons who have been part of this tradition all their life say, 'I didn't know that.' Take a moment and invite someone to come to worship with you.  Help them take the first steps into knowing more about who the people who call themselves Methodist are.

See you in worship!

Blessings,

Pastor Susan

A Lovefeast service is a service dedicated to Christian love, and is most famously practiced by the Moravians. It seeks to strengthen the bonds and the spirit of harmony, goodwill, and congeniality and is based upon the Agape feast and the meals of the early churches described in the Bible.
