 Thought for the Day:

"Wheresoever there are two, they are not without God: and where there is one alone I say I am with him. Lift the stone and there shalt thou find me: cleave the wood, and I am there."

-Saying of Jesus from The Apocryphal New Testament

A Thrill of Hope: THE PRESENTATION                            Luke 2:21-40

As Joseph and Mary went about the process of fulfilling the requirements of the Jewish law regarding the circumcision of Jesus and the purification of Mary, they received God' blessings from Simeon and Anna. This episode merits reflection among modern Christians. The observance of religious requirement and rituals has fallen on hard times. The pressures of secularism and modern life have reduced the significance of ritual observances in the lives of most Christians. Busy schedules preclude our taking the time for daily devotion. The marking of both daily and special events with rituals that recognize the sacredness of life and the presence of God in the everyday is practically extinct. What have we lost by removing ritual observances from our daily experience?

Establishing ritual observance in our daily lives helps us center ourselves in Christ. We should never underestimate the importance of ritual observance, (i.e. prayer, worship, devotions, journaling) in our daily experience. When we have these spiritual disciplines we become more attuned to God's presence and blessings, through the the holy spirit. Just as Joseph and Mary were sure to uphold the observance of religious requirements (ritual) we should do so as well , recognizing that all of life, our daily activities, can be religious observance when we acknowledge Christ's presence through it all.

Our Christmas Eve worship schedule can be found below. Hope you and your family can make it to worship for whichever service fits your schedule the best. We hope you will consider joining us in worship this Sunday, and please invite a friend.

New Years Eve, 11:00 PM, Chapel

As your last act of worship to God in 2010, join us in a New Years Eve Watch Night Service in the Chapel, starting at 11:00 PM. Traditionally, the watch night service began during the civil war as slaves awaited the new year, when the emancipation proclamation of Abraham Lincoln would take effect on Jan 1, 1863. We will take this opportunity to give thanks to God for our freedom in Christ and His blessings through the year, participate in John Wesley's Christian Covenant Renewal service and share in Holy Communion.
