November 20/21: THANKFUL FOR THE SECOND HELPING OF PUMPKIN PIE
Saturday at 5:00 pm
Sunday at 8:00, 9:00, and 10:30 am
I love Thanksgiving. I love the traditions we have around Thanksgiving. I don't know about you, but at this time of year I begin singing. Come, ye thankful people, come...We gather together to ask the Lord's blessings...Now thank we all our God, with heart and hand and voices...Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One...Over the river and through the woods, Hooray for the fun, Is the pudding done? Hooray for the pumpkin pie!
Our boys love pumpkin pie. They are always ready for it. Thinking about pumpkin pie with joy has some deep theological ideas. First, it reminds us that food we eat is a gift from God. Second, it is important for us as humans to respond to this gift with praise and thanksgiving.
This weekend we will celebrate Thanksgiving as a church community. We will sing the songs of our faith, we will join in prayer, we reflect on God's word through scripture and sermon, we will share in fellowship during coffee hour.
Take a moment and consider bringing someone with you. These past months you have invited family members, neighbors and friends to join you in worship. We have had a significant increase in the number of guests in worship. We have been blessed by their presence. They have been gracious in sharing that they have loved the spirit they find here.
This weekend, the Advent Calendars, postcards for our Christmas Outreach Child of Hope, and Advent Devotionals will also be available.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving. May your travels and the travels of loved ones be safe.
Blessings, Pastor Susan |
Thanksgiving Express Remember your grocery sacks filled with non-perishable food items for Northcott Neighborhood House. On Thanksgiving as you are seated around the table, may you feel a moment of contentment, knowing that you helped another family sit around a table to enjoy a meal. |

Saturday Men's Ministry Breakfast
November 20th, 7:30AM, Fellowship Hall
All Men of the Church Welcome!
Come share in fellowship and a hot breakfast, then hear from Sue Stanley, former Director of Music of our congregation, who will present information about the Taize worship experience. Come hear about the history of the Taize community and its style of worship.
The Saturday Men's Ministry seeks to share the Spirit of Jesus through fellowship among men as well as sponsoring and encouraging the men's involvement in mission activities beginning with mission at home in our own church. It is not the purpose of SMM to duplicate other ministries in the church - but rather, find the niche for the men while supporting the church ministries and missions. We meet each month, usually the third Saturday, with a gathering which begins at 7:00 am, a hot breakfast at 7:30 am and a 9:00 am finish. |
