Thought for the Day:

The principle of "the priesthood of all believers" teaches us that the plow boy and the milk maid can do priestly work. The plowboy in his plowing and the milk maid in her milking are in fact doing priestly work.

Oct. 23/24: Jesus SEEKS GOD'S WILL
John 8: 27-29
Saturday at 5:00 pm
Sunday at 8:00, 9:00, and 10:30 am

Join us this week as we continue our series, looking at how Jesus seeks God's will. This priority of Jesus highlights his commitment to being of one mind with God. In this week's main scripture, Jesus identifies himself as being one with God. The gospel of John's main theme is clarifying and proclaiming the nature and mystery of Jesus' relationship to God. In many passages of text from John, Jesus affirms his relationship, his oneness, with God. Jesus expresses this union with God in terms of his understanding and commitment to God's will.

Like Jesus, we can cultivate the habit of seeking God's will- always. Life, however, sometimes creates hurdles that make such a habit hard to maintain. Such things as lack of urgency, daily distractions, or fear of sacrifice, including others, can become barriers to continually discerning God's will.

Our human perspective limits us to knowing God's will. But, Jesus came so that we could know God through him. He is "the way, and the truth, and the life" (John 14:6). This week we will look at how to maintain a sense of urgency towards knowing God's will, and how, by knowing Jesus, we can know God.

CHILDREN & FAMILY MINISTRIES

"SHEPHERD SUNDAY" in Rotational Sunday School (K5-4th grade) - THIS Sunday, Oct. 24

Following the children's message in worship, children will meet their Shepherds in Fellowship Hall and then gather in classrooms to review and celebrate what they have learned this fall in "Building the Tabernacle" rotation.  Shepherd Sunday is scheduled at the end of each learning rotation and is a special time for the children and their Shepherds to spend time together in a small group.

FAMILY WORSHIP - Rescheduled for November

Please note that Family Worship will not be offered in October (previously scheduled for Oct. 31).

The Family Ministry team is looking for a family to lead worship in November - if you are interested, please contact Dana Saxton at dsaxton@umcwfb.org or 964-2424 x 113.

"ALL SAINTS' EVE" Sunday School Party - Oct. 31

It's Halloween!  Many of the children will be ringing doorbells, traveling from house to house and having lots of fun later in the day.  BUT in Sunday school we are going to celebrate a night long ago when early Christians roamed dark streets, peacefully guarded by God's angels.  Children are invited to WEAR COSTUMES depicting "saints"....such as Peter, Stephen or Paul. Or have fun and dress as a St. Bernard!  A New Orleans Saints football player or even St. Louis!  Be creative! Children could also dress up as Angels or Heavenly creatures.
