Thought for the Day:

If this is our life purpose [to glorify God, to seek justice, and to do mercy] then our money and possessions should be devoted to helping us fulfill this calling.

Oct. 16 & 17: Jesus BUILDS UP TREASURE IN HEAVEN
Matthew 6:5-6
Saturday at 5:00 pm
Sunday at 8:00, 9:00, and 10:30 am

In our society we have many things competing for our time. Many of us are "keeping up with the Joneses" and much of our energy is expended by our efforts in accumulating and consuming more material goods. But that is not what the purpose of our lives is supposed to be. We are called to be more than consumers.

In the Gospels, Jesus talks about treasure in Heaven twenty five times. There are twelve events that are concerned with treasure in heaven, one of which is the miracle of the feeding the five thousand; the only miracle recorded in all four Gospels! From these stories about Jesus, we can discern three distinct goals to strive for in our own lives: detachment, an abundance mentality, and justice.

Also, don't forget to bring your "Our Daily Bread" jars to worship. We will have a time during the service when you will have the opportunity to bring your jars forward and 'deposit' your offering in a special way. If you did not take home a jar, you can still take one and bring it back the following Sunday. If you have small children, you can also bring your jars back on Sunday, October 24 to Family Worship in the Chapel at 10:00. All funds from "Our Daily Bread" jars will go toward our Feed My Starving Children mobile packing event April 28-30. Please make checks out to UMCWFB and mark label them FMSC on the memo line. For more information on Feed My Starving Children, click here.

Join us this weekend as we continue to look at the life of Jesus and how we can more fully conform our lives to his. See you in worship.

Family Fun Day @ The Pumpkin Patch

Join us for festive games, activities and snacks for the whole family.

October 16th  9:00 - 12:00

Update: Sales at the patch are great! We have reached $5,000 in sales; 95% of 2009 sales and 50% of 2008 sales. At the current rate, we will exceed the 2008 sales total of $10,000. Praise God for the good weather, and thank you all for your support!

We need you to be able to surpass those 2008 sales- it is a fact that if the patch is not staffed, we lose sales. We know that with your help we can far exceed $10,000 and raise more funding for Feed My Starving Children, ASP and Milwaukee meal programs. Please sign up to sell pumpkins, even if it is just for one hour, online or in the Jones Narthex. Click here to sign up now.

Have no need for a pumpkin, but want to help missions? Then come by the patch and make a donation. Or buy a pumpkin for a neighbor or friend. You can be proud to tell them it is for a good cause.

Have you hugged your pastors lately?  Pastors need love too, you know!

Clergy Appreciation Month is a special time that congregations set aside each year to honor their pastors and pastoral families for the hard work, sacrificial dedication and multiple blessings provided by these special people.

Supporting our pastors with regular prayer, love, and encouragement are the most important things we can do for our pastors.  Prayer empowers a pastor to be the person that God called her/him to be.  Think of something that you can do during this month - a prayer, a note, a card or a kind word to express your appreciation.
