Thought for the Day:

The word of cheap grace has been the ruin of more Christians than any commandment of works.

 The Call to Discipleship...Luke 5:27-28; 9:57-62

The life of faith is different for everyone, and how we respond to the call of Jesus varies. What remains the same for all Christians is that Jesus calls us to be a disciple. We must remember that the call comes from Jesus alone; we cannot decide to be a disciple if we have not first heard the call of Jesus, and we follow that call on Jesus' terms, not our own.

Join us this week as we look closer at our call to discipleship, reflecting on the work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer in his book "The Cost of Discipleship."  Bonhoeffer responded to Jesus' call to discipleship, and it cost him his life. What will the call to discipleship cost us?

Jar Alert

The next time you empty a jar wash it out and bring it to church. Many jars, of all shapes, colors, and sizes, are needed for World Communion Weekend, October 2 & 3. Clean jars are needed no later than Sunday, September 26. Contact Mary Paull at mpaull@wi.rr.com with questions.

In July, the Rev. Dr. Don Francis preached during the Lord's Prayer series.  The weekend he preached, the topic was "Give us this day our daily bread".  In the sermon, Don spoke of "Our Daily Bread Jar."  Our Daily Bread Jar is a jar we take to give a portion of our income for those in need.

During World Communion Weekend we will lift up our mission focus of "Feed My Starving Children" and distribute Daily Bread Jars.  We will encourage families to set aside income over two weeks to feed hungry children physically and spiritually around the world.  It costs 19 cents to provide a meal for a child.

Meet Eric Rose, Director of Student Ministries

Eric Rose has officially started as our new director of student ministries! He and his wife Meghan moved into Whitefish Bay Aug. 27 and he began his time here with a staff retreat on Aug 30. We are so delighted to welcome them to our church family and community.

Eric comes to us by way of Virginia, where he served as student ministries coordinator at Floris United Methodist Church. However, the Midwest is where Eric grew up. The Wisconsin winters will be reminiscent of the Michigan winters of Eric's youth.

Eric will be formally introduced in worship on Rally Day September 12.
