Major Funding Announcement for Up2Us
|
Up2Us has just received a significant capacity-building grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service. This three-year grant for $1.35mm will allow Up2Us to expand our work uniting leaders of grassroots youth sports programs with researchers and intermediaries to identify and implement methodologies in which youth sports can achieve positive youth development outcomes. Specifically, thanks to the Corporation and with your help, we will grow Up2Us to 350 members; define quality in sports-based youth development; develop training systems for staff, coaches, and volunteers; engage more Americans in volunteer opportunities with at-risk youth; explore organizational efficiencies; and draw more attention to our important work using sports as a vital tool in youth development through coordinated outreach campaigns.

Up2Us Unveils New Logo
|
After several phases of development overseen by the Up2Us Steering and PR/Marketing Committees, Up2Us looks forward with a new look thanks to a significant in-kind gift from SME Branding. The new logo will be the basis for design of Up2Us.org, our forthcoming Web site, which will also be designed by SME and will launch in December. Up2Us.org currently has a temporary landing page and will become our main hub for resources, research, networking, job and board outreach, and connecting with volunteers. Be sure to check back soon!

Updates from the Up2Us Committees
|
Up2Us Releases First in a Series of SBYD Factsheets. The Research Committee has finalized a factsheet on the definition of sports-based youth development, and it's available for download at the temporary landing page at Up2Us.org. Close in the pipeline are factsheets on the key components of sports-based youth development, quality coaching, and childhood obesity.
Up2Us Volunteer Database to Launch in November. Construction of a custom-built volunteer database, for use by all Up2Us member organizations, will be completed this month. The database will be a connection point for thousands of adult volunteers and Up2Us member organizations in an effort to engage more Americans in service to this country's at-risk youth.
Up2Us Completes Highly Successful Education Trip to DC. In October, Up2Us staff and Steering Committee members took several meetings during a 3-day trip to educate about and advocate for Up2Us and sports-based youth development in general. The week was a tremendous success and generated many new contacts and leads for resources that will benefit the coalition with respect to member generation, training, organizational efficiencies, and research.
