Happy New Year from Hot Sand Design!
Having had the snow in December I didn't expect to be writing the January newsletter looking out at a blanket of white, but after yet another night of snow, it's whiter than ever. A bit of a shock after my wonderful holiday in the Canaries (Ok you can stop grumbling at me now!). One member of the team is enjoying it though; Alice the office dog loves a good romp through the snow drifts, she's been having great fun with her puppy pals Tilly and Pickle (it looks like she's being chased by a pair of very small polar bears!).
With New Year being a time of change and new resolutions, we have been looking into our suppliers and what green alternatives are available out there. I'm delighted to say that most of them already have great green policies making it easier for us to follow suit, and offer you an environmentally friendly service.
We are also feeling upbeat (as are many of our contacts - despite the weather) so for this month's special offer we are giving 20% off on the design and print of all stationery (cards, paper and comp slips) so you can make the most of new opportunities with the confidence of knowing your business looks professional!
Until next time !

Green fingers...
We have always tried to be as green as possible within our own office, but over the last year we have become even more aware of the impact our industry makes and decided to look into greener options. Happily, many of our existing print suppliers are doing their utmost to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

Our key printer, RCS have gained the coveted ISO 14001 environmental standard, and are also FSC certificated. What this means is that every sheet of paper used can be traced back to its source. Certification means that many more trees are planted than are felled each year by the foresters supplying the paper mills. The paper used is also processed using Elemental Chorine Free Technology to avoid the production of damaging toxins. The inks used are based on clean vegetable oil and supplied in eco friendly packaging and onsite mixing technology allows them to produce pantone colours as required, to pin-point accuracy, reducing wastage to almost zero.
When it comes to electricity usage, RCS have introduced a whole raft of energy saving measures, from lights that turn themselves off when the sun shines to more efficient motors. They also source their electricity from predominantly renewable sources. It goes without saying that they recycle as much as possible, and everything they are unable to reuse is graded into a range of categories and recycled or disposed of responsibly.
Large Format
Another area where we have been looking into greener alternatives is in the printing of large format items such as banner stands and popups. A3M, one of our regular suppliers have introduced a new green range of products:

Going Green
There is a lot of talk today about being "environmentally aware" or even simpler being a 'green' organisation. The pressure is growing on companies in B2B and B2C markets and those, in particular, working in the public sector, to demonstrate their environmental credentials.
Why are you worried though? This is the ideal time to create a specific marketing strategy for your products and services that shows just how green you are (or at least want to be). Done well this "Green Marketing" will result in you looking better than competitors and making (and saving) money. Here are 10 actions that ought to be in that strategy.
- Environmental Sourcing. Source products that use sustainable materials and are produced by 3rd parties with their own demonstrable environmental policies.
- Waste Management. Reduce. Reuse and recycle waste products. E.g. purchase paper that comes with an accredited environmental or green label (at least 70% recycled and chlorine free). Seek out partners with recycling services.
- Design. Design products that can demonstrate their ability to be reused or recycled (already compulsory in some industries).
- Consumer involvement. An example would be thecreation of "take back" programmes that allow customers to return products for recycling or safe disposal. Even encourage through reward programmes.
- Green delivery. Look at your supply chain and offer delivery methods that reduce environmental impact. Ask your delivery companies what they do to reduce their carbon footprint.
