Phoenix has had the hottest month on record. And summer's not over yet. But a little heat never slows us down. We've got some great new mysteries and an exciting new opportunity!

What's New...
|
|
Well last month we were moving offices. This month, we've begun a new project in conjunction with the Poisoned Pen Bookstore: The Poisoned Pen WebCon-- the first ever online mystery writing convention. Fans will be able to participate in live interactive discussions,
author panels, on-demand videos and audio presentations, exclusive
articles, book trailers, live chat rooms, and other interactive
web-based events. The event, coordinated with the bookstore's 20th anniversary, will be Saturday, October 24th, 2009. More details are available at the website: http://www.ppwebcon.com.
In the meantime, don't forget to read some of our great new mysteries.
Chambers of Death by Priscilla Royal
When one of her company falls ill on a return journey to Tyndal,
Prioress Eleanor accepts lodging at a nearby manor. Master Stevyns'
wife is having an affair with the groom while a local widow acts more
the lady of the manor than the lady herself. His eldest son and spouse
are obsessed with sin and heaven while his youngest son, bound for the
Church, unexpectedly returns with more interest in lute playing than
the priesthood. It is no surprise when someone's throat is cut, but the
sheriff does all he can to avoid offending the family rather than
seeking the real killer. When he arrests a servant, she herself is
stabbed before she can either prove innocence or be taken off for
hanging. Will Eleanor discover the dark secrets that have led to this
string of killings before the murderer strikes again?
According to Publishers Weekly, "Royal combines a well-executed plot with authentic period detail." (Hardcover, $24.95)
The Fitzgerald Ruse by Mark de Castrique
Former Chief Warrant Office and amputee Sam Blackman and his partner,
Nakayla Robertson, are opening a detective agency. They have high hopes
that the thriving mountain region will provide a steady stream of
cases. Their first client, a quirky elderly woman in a retirement
community, makes a strange request. She wants Sam to right a wrong she
committed over seventy years ago. Her victim: F. Scott Fitzgerald. Her
crime: stealing a manuscript when Fitzgerald resided in the stately
Grove Park Inn. Sam's task seems simple enough: retrieve the woman's
lockbox and deliver the manuscript to Fitzgerald's heirs.
Publishers Weekly states that, "Readers will hope to see a lot more of the book's amiable characters,
in particular, Sam and Nakayla, whose comfortable banter lends the
story much of its charm." (Hardcover, $24.95)
And don't forget our paperbacks--the perfect traveling companions...
Forsaken Soul by Priscilla Royal
The summer of 1273 is peaceful for most of England, but not for
Prioress Eleanor of Tyndal Priory. Her friend, Crowner Ralf, is newly
widowed with a baby. And her new anchoress is welcoming visitors to her
window at night: one of them a man the prioress secretly loves. Now his
loyalty to her as head of Tyndal Priory is suspect. Then Martin the
Cooper is poisoned at the local inn. Martin had a wealth of enemies.
The killer could be any of them. No one likes the direction the
evidence points, but God's justice must be rendered even for the most forsaken soul.
According to Publishers Weekly's starred review, "Royal once again brings alive characters who are true to their period
yet exhibit emotions and feelings that 21st-century readers will
recognize as their own."
(Paperback, $14.95)
