As you know, the Arizona Book Publishing
Association is calling for entries for the 2009 Arizona Book Awards. Submissions
must be postmarked by January 30, 2009.

Authors and publishers whose books win awards
see a positive correlation between the award and the overall success of the
book. The 2009 Arizona Book Awards help to promote and support quality work
created in or about Arizona and to recognize excellence in craft and creation in
the Arizona book industry. Press releases of the finalists and winners will be
sent to the major news media within Arizona as well as national media and will
also appear on the Arizona Book Publishing Association webpage.
Last
year's winners were featured in the Arizona State University Alumni newsletter
(going out to more than 40,000 individuals).

As we know, the awards that garner the most attention are
awards that are prestigious and well-known. These are awards with numerous
entrants and attendees. We want the Arizona Book Awards and the Glyph Award to
be a nationally recognized award, the kind of award that librarians,
booksellers, and critics will recognize.
But in order to make this
happen, we need your help to spread the word. Word-of-mouth is a powerful
marketing tool. Let your published authors know about the awards, alert your
media contacts, andmost importantlytell your friends. The more competition
for the award, the more prestige and clout it has in the bookselling world.
The Awards ultimately promote literacy and reward high-quality work in
Arizona and in publishing. Furthermore, by promoting the Arizona Book Awards, we
help to spread the news about publishing within the state, raising public
awareness and potentially attracting more clients.
