Happy New Year! I hope everyone survived the holiday
insanity, the unpredictable weather, and the out-of-town guests. We here at
Poisoned Pen Press hope that the new year brings new
surprises and plenty of new mysteries.
Here'a a taste of what the new year is offering....

What's New...
|
|
It's almost official.
Our inventory is on the move to Ingram Publishers Serives. Really. A couple of burly truck drivers are loading thousands of books into their trailers and hauling them from our warehouse in Michigan to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Starting February 1st, books will ship from IPS.
For our individual customers, nothing will change. You can still order the same great titles
directly from us or from our website.
We hope that this move to IPS will
mean that Poisoned Pen Press books should be more readily available from
bookstores big and small. Our readers should now be able to buy the same high-quality
mysteries they've come to expect in even more of their favorite
bookstores.
We'll keep you apprised of the changes. In the meantime, don't forget to catch up on
some great new titles coming from Poisoned Pen Press in January!
Murder in Mykonos by Jeffrey Siger
A young woman on holiday to Mykonos, the
most famous of Greece's Aegean Cycladic islands, simply disappears off the face
of the earth. And no one notices.
That is,
until a body turns up on a pile of bones under the floor of a remote mountain
church. Then the island's new police chief--the young, politically incorrect,
former Athens homicide detective Andreas Kaldis--starts finding bodies, bones,
and suspects almost everywhere he looks.
Teamed
with the canny, nearly-retired homicide chief of the Cycladic islands, Andreas
tries to find the killer before the media can destroy the island's fabled
reputation with a barrage of world-wide attention on a mystery that's haunted
the island undetected for decades.
Just
when it seems things can't get any worse, another young woman disappears and
political niceties no longer matter. With the investigation now a rescue
operation, Andreas finds himself plunging into ancient myths and forgotten
island places, racing against a killer who has a missionary-like zeal for
murder.
This
debut novel (and Poisoned Pen Press's first serial-killer mystery) has earned
rave reviews in Greece. Publishers Weekly has called it an
"Impressive debut...nicely nuanced...solid foundations for a projected
series." (Hardcover, $24.95)
The Sky Took Him by Donis Casey.
It's
a sad duty that brings Alafair Tucker to Enid, Oklahoma, in the fall of 1915. Her sister Ruth Ann's husband,
Lester, is not long for this world, and the family is gathering to send him to
his reward. Alafair had planned to make the trip on her own with her youngest
daughter Grace. So she is surprised and gratified when her eldest daughter
Martha volunteers to come along and care for Grace, freeing Alafair to comfort
the soon-to-be-bereaved.
But
her niece's irresponsible husband, Kenneth, has disappeared at a most inconvenient
time. When it comes to light that Kenneth has been involved in some shady
dealing with Buck Collins, the most ruthless businessman in town-everyone is
convinced that Collins has done him in. In fact, no other possibility is
considered, not by the family or by the local lawmen. But Alafair suspects that
things are not so simple.
Over
the next few days, Alafair and Martha come face-to-face with blackmail,
intimidation, murder, and family secrets that stretch back over twenty years.
And in the process, they discover things about each other that will change
their relationship forever.
This is the fourth
installment in a consistently lauded series.
In a recent starred review, Publisers
Weekly notes, " Those who like their puzzles cloaked in local color
from a different time will be amply rewarded." ($24.95, Hardcover)
If you like the sound of The Sky Took Him, you should check
out this new paperback release.
The Drop Edge of Yonder
by Donis Casey.
Mary
Tucker was with Bill McBride and his fiancée when an unknown man shot Bill and
ravaged his betrothed. But all Mary can remember is that the crime had
something to do with the Fourth of July. Will Mary discover the murderer? Or
will he silence Mary forever?
The Drop Edge of Yonder is the third book in the Alafair Tucker
Mystery Series. The Old Buzzard Had it Coming (the first in the series)
was named the Best Unpublished Mystery of 2004 by the Oklahoma Writers'
Federation and according to Library Journal "should please even the most
demanding fans of historicals with its authentic situations, fully drawn
characters, and clever plotting." ($14.95, Trade Paperback)
And don't forget, we have a backlist of titles
available year round. Just browse our
