EPA Finalizes E15 Pump Labeling Requirements

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued fuel pump labeling and other requirements for gasoline blends containing more than 10 and up to 15 percent ethanol, known as E15. These requirements will help ensure that E15 is properly labeled and used once it enters the market.

The new orange and black label must appear on fuel pumps that dispense E15.  This label will help inform consumers about which vehicles can use E15. This label will also warn consumers against using E15 in vehicles older than model year 2001, motorcycles, watercraft and gasoline-powered equipment such as lawnmowers and chainsaws. Aircraft such as my SkyCycle can not use gasoline with ethanol.  Also, be aware that fuel economy will drop with the use of gasoline with ethanol.

Is Mazda Violating the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act?

A joint letter from several automotive associations to the FTC, Federal Trade Commission urges the agency to take action against Mazda for violating the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. The measure prohibits the conditioning of warranties based on the use of a non-original equipment part.

To put it into plain English:  An automobile manufacturer can not void your warranty because it has been serviced by an independent service center using aftermarket parts.  Alan Cox Automotive recommends using original equipment parts. But if an aftermarket part is put on your vehicle, it will not void your manufacturer warranty.

Holidays Are Right Around The Corner. Are You Ready for a Road Trip?

Deep down, you know your car should be checked out before hitting the road for a vacation. With so many other things to do, it is easy to put it off. Bad idea, especially when you realize that in as little as 30 minutes, you can determine if your car is ready for long-distance travel.

The 30 minute pre-trip check up includes the following:

  • Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.
  • Check condition of brakes. Check hoses and belts that can become cracked, brittle, frayed, and loose or show signs of excessive wear. These are critical to the proper functioning of the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering and the cooling system.
  • Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should be checked for bulges and bald spots.

Windshield wipers and interior and exterior lighting on the vehicle should be checked prior to a road trip. Also, restock your emergency kit. As a rule of thumb, windshield wipers should be replaced every six months and lighting should be checked monthly.

To save on fuel costs during the trip, avoid aggressive driving, observe the speed limit and avoid excessive idling. Gas caps that are damaged, loose or missing should be replaced to prevent gas from spilling or evaporating.

Don't want to check these items yourself, give us a call 770-427-1745. It is a small sacrifice in time compared to the inconvenience and potential safety hazards of breaking down many miles away from home. Plus, if repairs or maintenance are needed, they can be done prior to your trip.

Honda Plans Electric2010 Insight

Vehicle - Plug-in Hybrid

Honda will start selling an electric vehicle as well as a plug-in hybrid in 2012 in the United States and Japan, joining the race to manufacture green cars in which rivals have already taken slight leads.

Honda Motor Co. President Takanobu Ito states, "Honda has no future unless we achieve significant reduction in CO2 emissions. The next 10 years will be a true test for Honda's survival."

Honda Cuts Production in US and Canada; Toyota Cuts Overtime

Parts shortages from three months of catastrophic flooding in Thailand have forced Honda to cut U.S. and Canadian factory production by 50 percent for the second time this year, the automaker said. The cuts, which come just as Honda was recovering from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, will run from November 2 - 10. Honda is trying to find alternate sources for microprocessors that are made in Thailand. The flooding, which began in July has forced many auto parts plants to close, also affected is Toyota Motor Company which cut overtime for production in North America. Honda Accord
