Keep Cloudy Windows Clean
We've all seen it: the cloudy film that forms on the inside of vehicle windows, especially on new vehicles
| | New Vehicles Subject to Cloudy Windows | . But what causes the film? How can you get rid of it?
Many things can cause window film: tobacco smoke, condensation, dust and nontoxic outgassing of the plastics, foams, and vinyls typically used in vehicle interiors. When the inside of a vehicle gets hot, these substances form a cloud that sticks to windows. In fact, it's what gives new vehicles that "new car smell." So, what is the best way to remove window film, and how do you keep it under control? The best way is to mix up a solution of one part white vinegar to ten parts distilled water, and apply it to the inside of the windows with a spray bottle. Use newspaper to wipe the window clean, but keep it away from the upholstery and trim to avoid staining them. Regular window cleaners will also work with a little elbow grease. Keeping the windows clean is important not just for good driving visibility, but for effective defroster performance as well. You can reduce window film from forming by parking in the shade, keeping the windows cracked if parking in the sun, and using a windshield sunshade. There is one good thing about window film, it is not a long-term problem. As a vehicle gets older, the outgassing tapers off and the problem usually lessens. |

Automakers Recall 20 million vehicles in 2010...
The number of recalls last year was the largest in the United States since 2004, according to an analysis of federal data by The Associated Press.
Toyota Motor Corporation recalled about 7.1 million vehicles in 2010 to fix faulty gas pedals, floor mats that could trap accelerators, defective braking and stalling engines.
"More and more recalls are being voluntarily initiated by automakers and we think that is a good sign," Transportation Department spokeswoman Olivia Alair said December 29, 2010.
Honda recalls...
Honda is recalling 2,277 2010 model year Accord and CRV vehicles to inspect and replace if necessary the ignition wiring harness. The original harness could fail causing intermittent engine stalling.
Honda is recalling 143,083 2007-2008 model year Honda Fit automobiles to inspect and repair as necessary the wiring and electrical connector to the low beam dimmer switch. Some of these cars were manufactured with the wiring harness to the headlight dimmer switch improperly installed. This could cause corrosion to accumulate at the wiring connector which could cause the low beam lights to fail. Dealers will repair the wiring and connector.
| | 2011 Honda Accord |
Honda is recalling 10,823 2010 and 2011 model year Honda Accord and Pilot vehicles to check for properly torqued front suspension bolts. Bolts which are found to be loose will be replaced.
