Four Myths that can Drain your Wallet or Save you Money.
Myth: You need to let your vehicle engine warm up in cold weather. False. Your vehicle's engine only needs a warm-up period of about 10 seconds - you're actually the only one who may feel chilly. The engine warms up while you drive. Running your car any longer beforehand is just a waste of gas. Save: Vehicles can use about a third of a gallon of gas per hour while idling.
Myth: The number listed on the sidewall of your tire is the recommended tire pressure. False. In most cases, this is actually the maximum pressure allowed for that tire. The recommended amount of pressure is usually listed on the inside door panel or check your owner's manual. Save: The government estimates that the average driver's tires are underinflated by 26 percent. Underinflated tires lowers gas mileage about a half-percent for each pound lacking when the pressure of all four tires is added up.
Myth: Buy gas in the morning and you'll save money. False. The old adage was to fill up in the morning when gas was coolest and most dense because gas is sold by volume and you would get more gas for your buck. But gas is sold in underground, nonmetallic tanks that typically hold about 10,000 gallons, and it will take a lot of sunlight to raise the temperature even a degree. However, pumping your gas when it is cooler does mean less release of vapors, which is better for the environment.
Myth: Premium gas is a treat for your car. False. Unless your vehicle is specifically tailored to take advantage of the higher octane level in the fuel, you are wasting you money. Use the fuel that is recommended in your owner's manual. Save: At current gas prices, drivers may save up to $150 a year by opting for unleaded gas instead of premium. |

Honor our Armed Forces
Memorial Day - May 31 at noon
Marietta National Cemetery will honor all those who served and gave their lives for our country's freedom. For more than 50 years, a ceremony has occurred every Memorial Day. Sponsored by the National Memorial Day Association of Georgia and The Avenue of Flags, this year's event promises to once again stir emotions and teach young and old alike what the words "duty," "honor" and "country" truly mean.
On Saturday, May 29 the Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts of America and Brownies will place flags beside every grave.
The Memorial Day event which begins at noon on May 31, will feature patriotic music, posting of the colors, prayers, a gun salute and inspiring speakers. All veterans, as well as the general public are invited to attend what will be a meaningful and memorable ceremony. |

Outdoor Burning Ban Returns in May
The annual outdoor burning ban goes into effect for Cobb and Cherokee Counties and much of north Georgia as of May 1. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has issued a ban on open burning through September 30. Fifty-four Georgia counties are affected. During the ban, no one may burn leaves, tree limbs or other yard waste, forest land or use air curtain destructors for commercial burning. Recreational fires and bonfires are allowed under certain circumstances and restrictions. Further details are available at cobbfire.org or by calling 770-528-8310.

Maintanence Is Less Expensive than Repairs
During these difficult economic times it is more important than ever to keep your vehicle well-maintained.
- Change the oil regularly - every 3,000 miles - have all fluid levels checked.
- Repair and replace brakes when needed - Safety comes first.
- Replace tires when needed. Tires keep your vehicle on the road.
Remember: Maintenance cost less than repairs. Maintenance can be scheduled. Repairs and breakdowns never happen at a convenient time. |
