Strawberry - Pear Trifle

3-1/4 oz Vanilla pudding (not instant)
1-1/2 cups Milk
1/3 cup plus 2 Tablespoons Cream Sherry
8 oz Sara Lee Pound Cake
1 cup Strawberry jam
2 lb can Pears in heavy syrup (drain pears and mash by hand)
16 oz Cool whip

Cook pudding with milk and 1/3 cup Cream Sherry. Set aside.

Break pound cake into bite size pieces.
Spread ½ of the pound cake pieces on the bottom of a 2 quart glass bowl. Cover cake with 1 Tablespoon Cream Sherry. Then layer ½ of the mashed pears and ½ of the strawberry jam. Make another layer like the first. Pour pudding mixture over top of dessert.
Refrigerate overnight. This will actually have more flavor on the second or third day.

Spotlight On Headlights...

The National Safety Council reports that traffic deaths are three times more likely to occur at night than during the day. Help ensure the safety of your family and others by keeping your headlights in good order with the following simple tips:

Two-at-a-Time: Replace your headlights in pairs about once a year. It is a little known fact that halogen headlights don't just burn out - they dim over time. Replacing them in pairs helps avoid uneven illumination, which can diminish driving visibility.

Bright Idea: Don't wait for your headlights to dim - upgrade them. University research has shown that whiter halogen headlights provide drivers with better roadside viewing, improved reaction time and increase visibility.

Quick Clean: Give your headlights a quick scrub when washing your windshield at the gas station. This small task helps prevent glare, which can be intensified by dust and dirt on the glass.

Make Adjustments: Headlights can be knocked out of alignment by rough driving, creating a distraction for other drivers. Ask Nick to have your headlight alignment checked if you think they are out of align.

Quick Check: Periodically ask a friend to walk around the outside of your car while you turn on the headlights, brake lights and turn signals to confirm they are working. Alan Cox Automotive checks your lights on every service.

Remember: Your lights are the most important way for you to communicate with other drivers. Follow these simple tips and keep yourself and others safe when driving in the dark!

Donations needed to help feed Cobb's needy families on Thanksgiving
Cobbline Staff

As we prepare for a holiday with loved ones around a feast, many of our neighbors must stretch their budgets, making it hard to afford a Thanksgiving meal for their families.
The Center for Family Resources, in partnership with the Cobb County Department of Family and Children Services, has provided Thanksgiving baskets to families in need in Cobb County for more than 20 years. Last year, CFR provided Thanksgiving baskets to 1,000 families.
You can sponsor the Thanks for Giving 2009 program or host a food drive at your company, school, congregation or organization.
For more information on sponsorships, volunteering or food drives, contact Jennifer Cain at 770-428-2601 or at JenniferCain@TheCFR.org. Center for Family Resources
