Lieutenant Larry Weaver (of Porter Fire Department) son Brandon is 11, he is in the hospital and needs a heart/lung transplant, and has been in the hospital for several weeks. Our fire fighters have been teaming up to take over shifts to help cover Larry's shift so that he not only has funds but keeps his insurance without having to take a leave of absence. All three of "my Chiefs'" went up there a week ago to check on how things were going and Larry has been at the hospital day in day out. Anyhow, his house was purchased as a shell home and basically has not had any work done and has gotten worse as times as gone along, time and money have been spent on the child and his medical expenses. The fire men have been working on his house and repairing it or building it so to speak. The family is in need of everything from furniture, dishes, bedding, towels, money, etc. To the best of my knowledge Chief Teverbaugh has been the person most involved in a large portion of the remodeling. If you can pass this along, or if you have any furniture, or anything that you can donate, we will pick it up from wherever need be. We need everything fixtures, dishes, you name it and if you would like to help please let us know. Diann Wilck Office Administrator 281-354-6666 Office 281-354-2043 Fax dwilck@porterfire.com

Holiday Shopping that Benefits the Library MCMLS Launches Adopt-a-Book Program Each of the seven branch libraries in Montgomery County are participating in an Adopt-a-Book program that launches on November 9, 2009. Seasonal holiday displays at each library will feature Adopt-a-Book ornaments, encouraging patrons to add the library to their holiday gift lists. Customers may pick out ornaments, which contain the images and purchasing information of specific book titles on the library's wish list. Customers can take the ornaments with them and buy the featured book or they may donate the dollar value for the book and let the library do the shopping. Donation forms will be available for additional monetary contributions that will allow customers to adopt a book, bookshelf, or even an entire shelving section. Preferences will allow customers to focus their donations on certain areas in the collection if they wish. Funds and materials received through the Adopt-a-Book program will be used to address the critical book shortages, which are the result of two years of devastating cuts to the book budget. If just a quarter of the total number of MCMLS library cardholders adopt just one book, then the library will have raised enough money to restore the funds lost in the book budget over the last two years. A popular book can be shared by over 100 people when it circulates at a public library, so participating in the Adopt-a-Book program truly is one way to give a gift that will keep on giving back to the community for years to come. For more information or to adopt a book today, please visit the library website at www.countylibrary.org. Happy Holidays from the Montgomery County Memorial Library System! ___________________________________________________
